Coaches, don’t get mad at your athletes if they accidentally hit you when you are spotting them. Remember, they DID NOT do it on purpose, it was merely an accident. We knew signing up that there was a chance of us getting hit, kicked, etc. when spotting our athletes. Our top priority when spotting is SAFETY! A big part of the athlete performing safely and confidently is knowing that we have their back and we won’t be mad at them if anything goes wrong. If the are fearful of us reacting a certain way then that will only make them feel worse about it and hinder their effort/performance. Be KIND! #hangtimetntgymnastics #coaching #cheer #tumbling #gymnastics #coach #spotting #tumbler #cheerleader #gymnast #positivecoaching by @coachwithpatience

ATHLETES, WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?
Finding your why behind what you do is extremely important; focusing on your why in training or in competition is gamechanging!

If your focus is more on the external, such as only focusing on winning, worrying about what others think of you, or reaching a certain status, it will put a damper on your ability to succeed.

If all you care about is winning, when the inevitable happens (when you lose) you will feel an overwhelming sense of sadness and frustration, only focusing on the negative aspects of failure and taking away the ability to use the loss as a lesson & an opportunity to get better!

If you are worried about impressing other people, you put their needs before yours. When you focus on what everyone else thinks, you ignore where you are at physically, mentally, and emotionally, and fail to give yourself what you need to succeed in that given moment.

If all you are chasing is a title and status, you fail to put everything you’ve got into your work; because rather than working from a place of love & passion for the sport, you are solely focused on accomplishment. Passion is power!

So whether you are in the midst of a great season where things are working out, or you are in an extremely difficult one where you can’t quite seem to figure it out, remember why you started, why you do what you do, and why you choose to keep doing it! #hangtimetnt #hangtimetntgymnastics #gymnastics #tumbling #tumbler #trampoline #doublemini #why #hardwork #dedication #inspirational #motivation #athlete #doitforyou by @coachwithpatience

As a coach, in no circumstance should you ever quit! Do not give up. Always give maximum effort and do everything in your power to push your athletes and give them the encouragement, insight, and tools to thrive and progress in their sport. It is important to teach them valuable life lessons that will not only help them navigate the challenges that they will face in the sport, but in life. It is important to teach them that every decision that they make has consequences (good or bad) and how important it is to have the discipline to make decisions that will result in the consequences that will help them reach their goals. It is important to teach them to have a healthy relationship with failure. They need to perceive every shortcoming as an opportunity to learn, grow, and adapt so that they can ultimately level up their game! It is crucial to instill in your athletes the drive to do better when things aren’t going well. They should be eager to get back up and go try again when they mess up; and whenever they mess up, they keep pushing until they figure it out. It is the grind! It requires more effort, more patience, more dedication, however, the feeling of seeing an athlete who once struggled, or who had to work really hard because they weren’t naturally talented reach their goals is unmatched! Nothing can quite describe the feeling. Ultimately, the athlete will decide if they take what you give them and use it or not. You can pour your whole heart and soul into the athlete and they may end up quitting, choosing to give up, and that is fine. It is their journey, not yours. They will also not stay in the sport forever, so there will come a day where they decide that they’ve done it long enough and they are ready to move on to the next chapter in their life. I promise you though, as a coach, you do not want to look back on your experiences with that athlete and wish you would have done more, wish you would have kept pushing, wish you would have given that athlete everything you had, and wonder if they would have stayed in it longer or made more progress if you did. #hangtimetnt #hangtimetntgymnastics #gymnastics #coaching #athlete #motivation #positivecoaching by @coachwithpatience

Working on the scoop with TP!

Going off of the block gives her a little more time to focus on getting her feet in front without piking through and breaking shape; the snap to hollow should come from lifting through the chest and tucking the bottom under in order to pull the feet through.

Having a good ending shape and angle will help the athlete have a more efficient connection in their standing series, via a stiff and powerful rebound (punch). @hangtimetnt #tumbling #cheer #gymnastics #backhandspring #backhandspringdrills taken in Hangtime TNT Gymnastics by @coachwithpatience

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”

I thank god every day for putting me on the path that I walk today. Being a coach is one of the greatest blessing that I have ever received. It is so much more than simply coaching gymnastics, it is about lifting up others in a way in which they can be successful in all avenues of their life.

It is about guiding them towards a path of goodness; showing them the value of a strong work ethic & developing resilience; helping them walk with respect and integrity; teaching them to navigate life’s greatest struggles and challenges in a positive way and using them to learn and grow; encouraging them to show kindness and compassion towards others, even when it is difficult to do so; and facing their fears with courage and confidence, knowing they have the ability to make it to the other side!

You can be competitive and aim to win without putting others down. Sure it is nice to make first place, but truly winning is showing others love, compassion, and support. Winning is lifting others up and leaving them feeling better than they were before.
CHARACTER >>> ANYTHING
Whenever it is all said and done and you walk away from your sport, how do you want to be remembered? What kind of impact do you want to leave behind? We as coaches and athletes should strive to bring everyone together instead of viewing others as strictly the opponent. Every athlete will have victories and losses; if someone performs well and wins, show them respect and congratulate them! If someone messes up and doesn’t perform the way that they wanted, be there for them and show support. Treat others the way that you want to be treated. We are all in this together, running the same race; to be the best version of ourselves that we can. by @coachwithpatience

Happy twisting Tuesday. TP putting in some work on her standing full with this drill.

I love this one because it helps reinforce the set and lifting of the hips in the beginning, helping the athlete not cheat the twist too much. For a standing full, you are going to see a little cheat (contact twist from the toes) as you set, but you should not wrap the arms in on the way up.

Progressions we used to get to this point:
1] 1/2 turn to tucked handstand (add a roll after a few)
2] Arabian to flat back (add a roll to belly after a few)
3] Arabian entry, wrap in to increase the twisting speed and make it to the 3/4 mark.

This will eventually lead to a hands and knees landing. If the athlete can make it all the way to hands and knees on top of stacked mats, then you take the mats out of the way, giving more room/time to finish the skill, which will allow them to make it to their feet! @hangtimetnt #tumbling #cheer #cheerleader #standingfull #standingfulldrills taken in Hangtime TNT Gymnastics by @coachwithpatience
