As we continue celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month, we’re proud to recognize and celebrate the many Hispanic employees who help keep our water system working every day.

While their work may not always be visible, its impact reaches every corner of Cobb. Their expertise, dedication, and hard work play an important role in delivering water, collecting wastewater, and providing stormwater services to the county.

The employees featured here represent just a few of the many Hispanic team members who make a difference every day.

Happy Hispanic Heritage Month! by @cobbwater

Understanding how water moves into, throughout, and from your home helps conserve water and protect infrastructure, as well as public health.

A property’s plumbing system delivers clean water in and carries wastewater out. It is the property owner’s responsibility to maintain water pipes from the meter box into the property. The county maintains pipes from the street main to the meter box.

Cobb County Water System encourages you to prevent pipes from breaking and to safeguard the health of your drinking water. Make sure you have a backflow preventer installed, verify that your property’s water pressure is 80 psi or less, and insulate pipes in the winter to protect them from the weather.

Plot twist: rocks can be the beginning of a forest.
Yep, you read that right.

At our Succession & Habitat Management workshop, you’ll learn how nature transforms landscapes over time, and it starts with some surprisingly tiny players.

Take lichen, for example. It’s an organism with a symbiotic relationship between a fungus and algae. Lichen breaks down rock through chemical weathering, creating the soil that makes it possible for plants to move in and ecosystems to develop.

Basically, lichen is out here doing the original “build it from scratch” project.

Join us for our Naturalist Club: Succession & Habitat Management to learn more about the fascinating processes that shape habitats, how ecosystems change over time, and what we can do to better understand and manage them.
