What an amazing weekend! Thank you SO much to everyone who visited Coburg House Open Studios - we all had a blast, and enjoyed meeting everyone who came through our doors across the weekend.

Big thanks to the local Leith community for pulling together and being part of the weekend - @moonwakebeer @leithspirits @cafedomenico - the party wouldn't be the same without you!

Parallels⁴

This last week and a half has been full on! Jewellery has been made though and lovely photos have been taken! I just need to put my work on the walls…

Thanks @annagormezano.art @illustratedlab and @soliisees for being so chilled and awesome! Can’t wait for tomorrow’s opening!

The highly anticipated Parallels 4 opens tomorrow evening at Coburg House!

Parallels 4 is a group exhibition showcasing the work of Anna Gormezano Marks, Fiona Luing, Jenni Colquhoun and Solii Brodie.

After meeting professionally eight years ago, the collective makes time to come together annually and showcase their ever-growing bodies of work as each progresses through the years.

Join the group and explore their current collections, spanning art, illustration and jewellery.

Parallels 4 opens Friday 16th October from 6-9pm, then Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th 11-4pm, and Saturday 24th and Sunday 25th October 11-4pm.

Wednesday = setup day for Parallels⁴! I am delighted I get to do these exhibitions with @annagormezano.art, @soliisees, and @luingsmith—we all work in a similar, stupidly down-to-the-wire manner, somehow the exhibition comes together like we planned it meticulously... (There is planning. It's just... Softer) And when we do all get to be in a room together it's an absolute blast.

We open this cracker of an exhibition on Friday at 6pm, so naturally, I'm leaving space to draw some more kelp. Look, I have placeholders and everything, because I can't function without a stupidly tight deadline.

Ok people. It’s getting serious now! Parallels 4 incoming in 3 days. We’re hanging our work tomorrow and there’s lots going on behind the scenes.

Catch this incredible, science-inspired, exhibition from machine knit artist Madeleine Shepherd @studioknotunknot - open this weekend 11-4pm both Saturday and Sunday. You'll be able to see Madeleine and her work across the weekend, and maybe even better lucky enough to see a demonstration of Madeleine's machines!

"An unconformity is a geological feature displaying unexpected shifts in direction in the strata laid down over deep time. Expect aperiodic tiles, computational kimonos and a celebration of James Hutton's 300th birthday.

Hutton was born in Edinburgh in 1726. Considered the father of modern geology, he was also an agriculturalist, chemical manufacturer, naturalist and physician. Madeleine has knitted Hutton's portrait in naturally dyed yarns, referencing his studies in the production of madder root for dyeing wool. Wall hangings and 3D pieces embody ideas and observations from Hutton's geological work on unconformities in the Edinburgh and East Lothian landscape.

Other new pieces include a pullover embodying a recent discovery in the mathematics of tessellations and wearable items incorporating patterns generated by cellular automata"

It's been a difficult few weeks for the arts in Edinburgh, with the announcement from the University of Edinburgh of the closure of many course and programmes, including three craft and design courses at the Edinburgh College of Art. Many artists within Coburg House studied at ECA, and have direct experience of how these core arts programmes have helped frame the industry we work in today.

Join us in voicing our disappointment and frustration, by adding your name to the petition launched by Craft Scotland - created to help save these vital strands of Scotland's craft and design education system. Opening this coming weekend at Coburg House Art Gallery, 'Unconformities' by Madeleine Shepherd of @studioknotunknot

An unconformity is a geological feature displaying unexpected shifts in direction in the strata laid down over deep time. It's also a perfect description of this exhibition of new, science-inspired textiles by Madeleine Shepherd. Expect aperiodic tiles, computational kimonos and a celebration of James Hutton's 300th birthday.
