Well, this was certainly a “pinch me” moment.

The 787 has always had a special place in my heart. After all, it was my gateway into the world of aviation. My interest in the industry took off right when the 787 was being introduced, and its flight test program taught me so much in those early years. I vividly remember watching its first flight, checking the Boeing website everyday for program updates, and waking up at the crack of dawn to watch the first delivery to ANA.

If it weren’t for the Dreamliner, I might not be doing what I do today. So, getting the chance to visit Boeing South Carolina — where every Dreamliner is built — was really special.

A huge thank you to team @boeing for welcoming me to a place I’ve wanted to see for years. And stay tuned — a really fun video is coming soon. ◡̈

This is the plane that started it all ✈️

My interest in aviation really began to peak right as the 787 program was revving up. And as the program’s first airframe, ZA001 was obviously a huge part of that.

I vividly remember waiting (rather impatiently) for its first flight, constantly refreshing the @boeing website for program updates, and following the test campaign closely to soak up as much information as I could. Those early days of the Dreamliner helped shape who I’ve become, both personally and professionally.

So getting to finally see this airframe in person at her final home in Nagoya was pretty surreal. Pretty cool to finally meet you, ZA001!

A fun milestone today: my first contribution to @businessinsider is live!

Most of what I make for Coby Explanes focuses on airline and industry strategy. But as part of the job, I also get to take a TON of unusual flights that result in some pretty unique travel stories.

Those don’t always fit neatly into the content I normally make, so it’s nice to have another outlet to tell some of those stories.

For my first piece, I wrote about one of the more ridiculous trips I’ve taken recently: flying more than 13,000 miles over three days just to keep my airline status. During the journey, I visited three continents, missed a flight, and ran out of clothes (and I’d do it all again).
