With a full heart I'm happy to share my feature directing debut, The Heart Is A Muscle, will have its world premiere at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival @berlinale. Thank you @michaelstuetz and @dorotheewenner for believing in us. Having gone through @berlinaletalents & @talentsdurban, it's a dream to have my first film be part of this incredible festival ⚡️

I always feel so alive talking to emerging filmmakers. 🌼 There’s something so energising about their fresh thinking and willingness to get into the realities of making films.
At @talentsdurban , I had the pleasure of being part of The Sacred Circle: Vetting, Selecting and Aligning with the Right Producer. It was an engaging, thoughtful conversation that allowed me to share lessons from my own journey as a producer, while exploring what makes creative partnerships work. The amazing Durban Talents participants brought such openness, enthusiasm and a refreshing honesty to the room, making it all the more rewarding.
Over the years, I’ve learned that producing is as much about people and relationships as it is about budgets, schedules and getting films made. Not every collaboration unfolds as expected, and not every creative partnership is the right fit. Those experiences, too, have taught me a great deal about communication, alignment, trust and the importance of being honest about what we each bring to a collaboration.
I certainly don’t have all the answers, and I’ve never believed that the journey has to be perfectly smooth for us to learn something valuable along the way. Some of the most useful lessons come from reflecting on our experiences and remaining open to growth.
It’s always a pleasure to share what I’ve learned and hopefully make the road a little easier to navigate for those coming up behind us.
Thank you @nziman Menzi for inviting me, to the Durban Talents team for creating the space for these conversations, and to the wonderful participants for making it such a lively and enriching exchange. More of this, always. ✨💛🧡❤️ by @cocoa_chachi

First and foremost, a heartfelt thank you to the @durbanfilmmart team, to @xofaiza , @magdalene_reddy and all the staff members, photographers, drivers, volunteers and trainees who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this edition possible. The care, effort and commitment that go into creating a space for our industry to meet, exchange ideas and build relationships should never be taken for granted. 💛
Leaving DFM feeling grateful, inspired and reminded of why we do this work. 🎬

I leave Durban with new ideas, meaningful connections, renewed energy and a deeper appreciation for the people who make this industry what it is.

May we continue to build an industry where our stories travel, our relationships endure, and the opportunities we create make the circle wider for those who come after us.
Until next time, Durban. 💛

Excited to be part of FAME Week Africa for Creating Across Industries — a conversation about the possibilities that emerge when Cape Town’s creative industries come together.

Our creative industries have so much to offer one another. I’m looking forward to exploring how we can build stronger connections across film, music, performance and the wider creative sector, and contribute to Cape Town’s growth as a thriving creative hub.

I’ll be joining Robin Jutzen, Siv Ngesi and Megan Florence (Patty Monroe) for the conversation, moderated by Robin Jutzen.

📅 Thursday, 29 October
⏰ 14:00–14:45
📍 MIP Theatre 1 | FAME Week Africa

Looking forward to the conversation. Hope to see you there!

This past Wednesday we had a beautiful evening at @artscapetheatre celebrating culture, creativity and the people shaping our stories.

We honoured @ricardomackenzi invitation and were proud to have been there representing The Heart Is A Muscle as our director, @imranhamdulay , was nominated for Most Innovative Contribution in Film, Audio Visual, Interactive Media & Photography. 🎬

What stood out was the celebration of heritage, creativity, community and the power of culture to connect us. From film, dance and music to libraries, archives, heritage and community-led research. It was inspiring to see so many different forms of cultural work being recognised.

Honouring artists. Preserving memory. Building legacy. ❤️
