CoDa at Green Man Festival 🏕

Autumn leaves may be falling but we're still dreaming of warm and sunny August days at Green Man, the independent music, science and arts festival in the Welsh Brecon Beacons.

We were invited to present our interactive digital installation Beyond the Darkness, which offers an insight into how neuro-disability can be experienced, on the hydrogen-powered Alchemy Stage in Einstein's Garden.

We led four workshops, offering our audience opportunities to take part in the work, explore how it was created, and discuss the themes it raises.

We were blown away by the reception and how engaged the audience were. One person even said it would be great to have Beyond the Darkness as a permanent fixture.

Thanks for the invite @greenmanfest ❤️

First outdoor performance complete! 🪞

Earlier this month, we performed our work in development Avoidance and Other Acts of Love outdoors to a small invited audience for the very first time at Coalhouse Fort in East Tilbury.

We wanted to hear how the work was received and our audience feedback was evidence of how affecting it is in holding a mirror to the very human art of messy conversations:

‘I thought it was about four people…all with their own demons, and the lesson was to talk.’

‘I found it very moving, very powerful.’

‘It really works.’

‘Having these kinds of stories here and particularly this work is so important.’

Huge thanks to the people of #easttilbury for their feedback, to @thurrockcouncil and @Ukspf for their support with this event, and to @weareunltd for commissioning the development of this important work 💪

Working with a gold horse outside your window 🎠

Last week we made Anita’s Room in @brighton_dome our home.

We made real progress with the creation of new piece Avoidance and Other Acts of Love, with @loucopedramaturgy and dancers @maiyaleeke @jodiehoneybourne @clairevictorialambert & @nicholasminns

And although unable to bring our large spinning mirror co-stars to Brighton, some local wooden boards stood in (but were reluctant to dance.)

Thanks so much @brighton_dome for the space 🙏 taken in Brighton Dome by @codadanceco

Thanks for having us @startthurrock #BigLunch 🥪

We had such a great time sharing elements of our new work Avoidance and Other Acts of Love with visitors to the South Ockendon Big Lunch last week.

Using headphones meant that participants could dive right into @jephvanger’s atmospheric soundtrack, whilst helping us understand how the work is received in an outdoor setting.

Everyone who took part found the experience immersive, telling us that the headphones helped them get in the zone, feel more relaxed and even recharged as a result.

Thanks to everyone, including our team and volunteers, for your enthusiasm and have a go energy!💪 Four figures wearing headphones stride forward in an outdoor grassy space with blue skies and fluffy clouds behind them by @codadanceco

Creation continues! 🪞🪞🪞

We had a brilliant week at our favourite creation space 101 Outdoor Arts National Centre for Arts in Public Space (@101OutdoorArts) further refining and developing our new work Avoidance and Other Acts of Love, specially designed to be performed in outdoor and unconventional spaces.

It’s a joy to see this piece taking shape, quite literally holding up a mirror to the messy reality of human communication.

Huge thanks as always to @weareunltd @sadlers_wells @culturessex @thurrockcouncil and the UK Shared Prosperity Fund for their support with the development of this important work. And to our wonderful creative team:

Dramaturg @loucopedramaturgy
Composer @jephvanger
Dancers @jodiehoneybourne, @maiyaleeke, @clairevictorialambert, @nicholasminns & not forgetting our spinning mirrors.

A bird’s eye view of our new work 🐦

A massive thank you to @creativenewhaven and @abysspopupnewhaven for letting us use their beautiful space in #Newhaven to take our set from new piece, Avoidance and Other Acts of Love, for a spin.

Avoidance and Other Acts of Love holds up a mirror – or three – to our personal relationships, encouraging us to find the confidence to start difficult conversations with the people we love.
With choreography from CoDa Artistic Director Nikki Watson (@nikkikavuk) and an original score from sound artist Jeph Vanger (@jephvanger) four dancers and their spinning co-stars find heartache and humour in homo-sapien interaction.

We had a lot of fun testing our reflective friends for outdoor audiences and locations, even though the heatwave made it hot work 🥵

If you want to find out more about Avoidance and Other Acts of Love see the CoDa website or link in bio.
