☰ WANDERLUST FESTIVAL STARTS THIS THURSDAY ☰

📍 WMDC Rotterdam
🗓 18–26 June 2026

The countdown is almost over!

From 18 to 26 June, the students of Codarts Global Musics invite you to join us for Wanderlust — a celebration of music, community, creativity, and the living traditions that continue to shape our world today.

Throughout the festival, students take the stage in a vibrant series of ensemble concerts, recitals, collaborations, and artistic projects, sharing the music they have been developing throughout the year.

Experience performances inspired by:

🎶 Cuba
🎶 Brazil
🎶 River Plate Tango
🎶 Turkey
🎶 Greece
🎶 Anatolian musical traditions
🎶 And many more musical cultures connected through Global Musics

Wanderlust is a chance to experience how musical traditions continue to evolve through today’s artists, bringing together heritage, innovation, improvisation, and artistic dialogue.

As part of Rotterdam’s rich cultural landscape, this festival celebrates the diversity of our city and the many musical journeys that intersect within it.

🍽 On selected festival days, there will also be delicious food available, creating opportunities to gather, connect, and celebrate together.

Whether you join us for one concert or spend several days exploring the programme, we look forward to welcoming you to WMDC Rotterdam.

👉 Check out the full programme and join us for this unique celebration of Global Musics.

With his band Naamu, he explores these musical connections through collaborations with musicians from different traditions, from West Africa to southern Morocco. Together with emerging musicians from the Dutch music scene, he explores new musical languages through improvisation and collaboration. Classical students of Codarts — come and play tango with us.

OTRA, the tango orchestra of the Global Musics department, is opening its doors. Pianists and string players: we would love to have you.

Tango from the Río de la Plata — Buenos Aires and Montevideo — is a written and an unwritten tradition, and that is exactly what makes it such a good place for a classically trained musician to grow. You will read notes you recognise and discover that almost everything that matters is not on the page. Tango teaches what the classical page can’t: rhythm carried in the body, bowing that bites and drags, phrasing that breathes like a singer, and improvisation taught properly from the ground up. You keep everything you already have — you just come back hearing more.

No tango experience needed. All welcome.
