Our next edition is led by bassist, composer and bandleader Teun Creemers. His music is driven by a curiosity for musical traditions from around the world, bringing together African music, contemporary jazz and groove. With his band Naamu, he explores these musical connections through collaborations with musicians from different traditions, from West Africa to southern Morocco. Together with emerging musicians from the Dutch music scene, he explores new musical languages through improvisation and collaboration. Expect a dynamic crossover between different traditions, with plenty of room for musical exchange. After the concert, the evening continues with an open jam session.

In the workshop we held at Codarts Rotterdam, we worked on examples of "gurbet havası" melodies and "Teke zortlatması" rhythms. We had a wonderful session with Dutch violin student @wandelendevioliste—whose primary focus is actually tango music—alongside Hungarian violin student @sunbpi and Iranian kamancheh student @mostafataleb_; they achieved impressive musical synergy in such a short time—just one hour. Great job, everyone... 🍀👏🎶

Some of the most beautiful projects begin with one simple conversation. ❤️

Some time ago, I had the idea of bringing live music into elderly care homes, creating moments of connection, warmth and joy for people who may not always have the opportunity to attend concerts themselves.

When I shared this idea with Ausra from @groundsrotterdam , she told me she knew someone who might be interested. That is how I met Karin, and from that meeting, something very special began to grow.

What began as a small idea has now become De Klankbrug.

We have already organized our second concert, applied for funding, and we now have bookings through November. Seeing this project take shape step by step has been incredibly meaningful.

De Klankbrug is a collaboration between @groundsrotterdam , @codartsglobalmusics , De Leeuwenhoek, Stichting Cretopia Rotterdam, Aktiegroep Het Oude Westen and Oude Westen TV. Together, we are bringing musicians, students, elderly residents and people from the neighbourhood closer to one another through live music.

For me, this project is about much more than organizing concerts. It is about human connection. A familiar melody can bring back a memory, open a conversation, make someone smile, or simply create a moment of togetherness.

A heartfelt thank you to my department and to our head @jankuhr - @codartsglobalmusics , for supporting me and giving this idea space to grow, and to all of our students for bringing their music, openness and energy into these encounters.

I am also very grateful to @ciconiaorchestra and its musicians, who have generously contributed their time and artistry to the project.

And finally, my deepest thanks to Karin, Ausra, GROUNDS, Codarts Global Musics, De Leeuwenhoek, Stichting Cretopia Rotterdam, Aktiegroep Het Oude Westen, Oude Westen TV, Ciconia Consort, our students and every musician involved for helping turn an idea into something real.

One conversation became a connection. One connection became a concert. And little by little, De Klankbrug is building bridges through music. ❤️. #musicandcommunity #livemusic #musicconnects #rotterdamculture #rotterdammusic
