The Academy just banned AI from winning an Oscar

The new rules require human performances and human-written scripts for eligibility, limiting how AI can be credited in awards.

This isn’t about removing AI from filmmaking. It’s about setting boundaries on authorship and recognition.

AI can assist production, but core creative credit remains human.

Why do AI data centres need water?

AI data centres need water because the chips running AI models get extremely hot. Every prompt, image, video, or model training run uses powerful servers, and those servers turn electricity into heat.

Water is often used to remove that heat. In many data centres, water helps cool the air or absorbs heat through cooling systems, so the machines don’t overheat or slow down.

The deeper issue is that AI doesn’t just use water directly. It can also use water indirectly through the power plants that generate electricity for these data centres.

So the real question isn’t just “why does AI need water?” It’s how much water, where that water comes from, and whether future AI infrastructure can grow without putting pressure on local communities.

Tim Cook is stepping down as Apple CEO after 15 years
End of an era for Apple

After nearly 15 years as CEO, Tim Cook signals a shift that feels less like a departure and more like transition: handing leadership to John Ternus while moving into an executive chairman role after building Apple into a $4 trillion giant.

This isn’t about leadership change anymore. It’s about direction. Cook’s era was defined by scale, operations, and ecosystem growth, but the next phase will be driven by AI, hardware innovation, and redefining Apple’s position in a rapidly shifting tech landscape.

The real tension isn’t legacy, it’s momentum. As Apple transitions from operational excellence to innovation pressure, the question shifts from what Cook built to what comes next. Those who execute the next wave will define Apple’s future. Those who don’t may fall behind it.

Yes this is not AI 😭

Tesla just revealed its next-generation Roadster performing an Insane mid-air stunt using technology developed with SpaceX.

The car drove upside down on a specially designed ramp, launched into the air, flipped, and landed back on the ground. Elon Musk even shared the clip, saying the future has flying cars.

But before you start planning to skip traffic, there’s a catch: this was a controlled demonstration, not proof that the Roadster can fly around cities like an aircraft. Production is currently planned for 2028.

OpenAI Just Launched Dots, Cute AI Agent Avatars That Work for You 24x7

OpenAI just launched Dots, always-on AI agents designed to do more than answer prompts — they can actually keep working on your goals in the background. Powered by GPT-6 Astra, each Dot gets its own cloud computer and browser, can connect to your apps, research, analyze data, build software, and keep projects moving while you’re away.

And yes, they’re intentionally cute. You can name and customize your Dot, turning your AI agent into a little digital coworker that learns how you work and can proactively figure out what needs to happen next.

OpenAI says Dots can work across ChatGPT, Slack and Microsoft Teams, with controls that let you decide what they can access and which actions require your approval.

It weighs 100g, 5x lighter than the Quest 3

Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta just introduced the Meta VR glasses, at Meta Connect 2026.

Meta has officially unveiled its new Meta VR Glasses, putting a full VR experience into a glasses-style device weighing about 100 grams — around five times lighter than the Meta Quest 3.

The trick is the two-part design: the glasses handle the displays and sensors, while a pocket-sized compute, battery and storage puck connects through an optical cable. Inside are 5K micro-OLED displays, pancake lenses, eye tracking and hand-gesture controls, with Meta AI built into the experience.

Meta is positioning them as a portable cinema, immersive sports seat, gaming device and multi-screen workspace — including Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and IMAX Enhanced support. They’re expected to launch in Spring 2027 for $1,299.99.

This feels a lot closer to the lightweight VR future people imagined after the Apple Vision Pro.

“Probably doing pretty well” 😭

Should’ve picked a different answer

Humanoid robots are already moving through real environments, manipulating objects and learning increasingly complex tasks, but reliable autonomy in messy real-world situations is still a major challenge.

So no, we’re not at Terminator levels yet… but the gap between sci-fi robots and real machines is getting noticeably smaller.

Chinese startup has built a laser machine that detects mosquitoes and shoots them down 🦟

A Chinese startup, Photon Matrix Lab, has developed a portable mosquito-control device that uses AI-powered vision, LiDAR and millimetre-wave radar to detect and track mosquitoes in mid-air.

Once a target is identified, the system uses a precision laser to eliminate it. The device is designed to target small flying insects within roughly a six-metre range, according to the company’s specifications.

The project has now moved beyond the prototype stage, with the company entering mass production in 2026 after raising millions through crowdfunding.

Andrew Garfield is playing Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI and co-founder of ChatGPT, in “Artificial”

Andrew Garfield is stepping into the role of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman in Artificial, directed by Luca Guadagnino and written by Simon Rich.

The film dramatizes the chaotic events surrounding Altman’s sudden firing and reinstatement as OpenAI CEO in November 2023.

The cast also includes Monica Barbaro as Mira Murati, Yura Borisov as Ilya Sutskever, and Ike Barinholtz as Elon Musk. The first teaser takes a much darker, almost unsettling approach to the story of AI and the people building it.

Artificial is currently slated for a limited U.S. theatrical release on December 25, 2026, with a wider release expected afterward.

Tesla’s Cybercab safety being tested on public roads

A guy suddenly steps into the path of Tesla’s Cybercab, giving the vehicle almost no time to react.

The car uses its cameras to detect people and objects, track their movement, and predict whether they could enter its path. If it detects a collision risk, it can reduce acceleration and apply the brakes automatically.

That matters even more with the Cybercab, which is designed without a steering wheel or pedals for passenger use.

Real-world situations like this are exactly where autonomous driving has to prove it can handle unpredictable human behavior safely.

100 metres in 9.39 seconds. Chinese robot beat Usain Bolt’s 100-meter sprint world record.

A Chinese humanoid robot, Tien Kung Ultra, ran 100 metres in 9.39 seconds at the World Humanoid Robot Games in Beijing faster than Usain Bolt’s 9.58-second human world record set in 2009.

What makes it even crazier: the same robot took 21.50 seconds to cover 100 metres at last year’s games. That’s a massive jump in just one year.

More than 2,000 robots from 16 countries competed across 51 events, showing just how quickly humanoid robotics is evolving.
