It weighs 100g, 5x lighter than the Quest 3 Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta just introduced the Meta VR glasses, at Meta Connect 2026. Meta has officially unveiled its new Meta VR Glasses, putting a full VR experience into a glasses-style device weighing about 100 grams — around five times lighter than the Meta Quest 3. The trick is the two-part design: the glasses handle the displays and sensors, while a pocket-sized compute, battery and storage puck connects through an optical cable. Inside are 5K micro-OLED displays, pancake lenses, eye tracking and hand-gesture controls, with Meta AI built into the experience. Meta is positioning them as a portable cinema, immersive sports seat, gaming device and multi-screen workspace — including Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos and IMAX Enhanced support. They’re expected to launch in Spring 2027 for $1,299.99. This feels a lot closer to the lightweight VR future people imagined after the Apple Vision Pro. Chinese startup has built a laser machine that detects mosquitoes and shoots them down 🦟 A Chinese startup, Photon Matrix Lab, has developed a portable mosquito-control device that uses AI-powered vision, LiDAR and millimetre-wave radar to detect and track mosquitoes in mid-air. Once a target is identified, the system uses a precision laser to eliminate it. The device is designed to target small flying insects within roughly a six-metre range, according to the company’s specifications. The project has now moved beyond the prototype stage, with the company entering mass production in 2026 after raising millions through crowdfunding. The creator of minecraft said “reject ai.” 14 days later, he was using Claude 😭 Markus “Notch” Persson posted “Reject AI.” on July 14, 2026. Just days later, he began reconsidering AI-assisted coding, and by July 28 he was openly experimenting with Claude for coding tasks. He even started exploring uses like converting codebases between languages and building tools for his game. From “Reject AI” to using Claude in two weeks. The AI shift is getting hard to ignore. Steve Jobs sent a heartbreaking email to himself just one year before he d*ed. On September 2, 2010, Jobs wrote a private email to himself reflecting on how much of his life depended on the work of others from food and language to technology and medicine. He ended with a powerful realization: “I love and admire my species, living and dead, and am totally dependent on them for my life and well being.” He died just over a year later, on October 5, 2011, aged 56. Meet the researcher who left Elon Musk’s xAI to join India’s Sarvam AI: Devendra Singh Chaplot Devendra Singh Chaplot has gone from Mistral AI and Thinking Machines Lab to Elon Musk’s xAI and now Sarvam AI. An IIT Bombay graduate and Carnegie Mellon PhD, Chaplot has worked across robotics, embodied AI and large language models, including contributing to Mistral’s major models and building Tinker at Thinking Machines Lab. He joined xAI in March 2026 to work closely with Musk on superintelligence and Grok. After roughly a month, he left xAI and has now joined Sarvam as a part-time advisor. Sarvam is building a trillion-parameter foundation model from scratch and expanding its frontier AI research globally. India is clearly trying to build its own seat at the frontier AI table Follow @codeofcapital for more AI & tech. China’s nuclear fusion research has completed a massive magnet weighing 582 tons China has completed and tested a 582-ton superconducting magnet for its next-generation BEST fusion reactor project in Hefei. The magnet is designed to help control plasma hotter than 100 million degrees Celsius without letting it touch the reactor walls. With 16 coils planned to generate a 6.5-tesla magnetic field, this is a major step toward China’s goal of demonstrating fusion power around 2030. The world’s first UFC-style humanoid robot fighting league has just kicked off in China In Shenzhen, EngineAI launched URKL, where T800 humanoid robots fight inside an octagonal arena in front of a live audience. The first match featured White Eagle vs Matador, but behind the spectacle, the robots are also testing balance, perception, movement control, impact response, and durability. It looks like Real Steel, but it’s now happening in real life. Why do AI data centres need water? AI data centres need water because the chips running AI models get extremely hot. Every prompt, image, video, or model training run uses powerful servers, and those servers turn electricity into heat. Water is often used to remove that heat. In many data centres, water helps cool the air or absorbs heat through cooling systems, so the machines don’t overheat or slow down. The deeper issue is that AI doesn’t just use water directly. It can also use water indirectly through the power plants that generate electricity for these data centres. So the real question isn’t just “why does AI need water?” It’s how much water, where that water comes from, and whether future AI infrastructure can grow without putting pressure on local communities. Claude was asked what quietly ruined the world without anyone noticing The answer will haunt you! End of quiet thinking Claude’s answer pointed to the collapse of unstructured time, and more specifically, what smartphones and algorithmic feeds have done to boredom. Boredom was never useless. It gave the brain space to reflect, process memories, build empathy, generate ideas, and shape a deeper sense of self. Now every empty moment gets filled instantly, and that may be one of the quietest ways the modern world changed us for the worse.
