Bit of a speechless moment, absolutely elated to win Best International Documentary at Sundar Prize Film Festival recently. What an amazing weekend, really taken back by just how supportive Sundar staff were. Not going to lie, public speaking scares the crap out of me, but it was an absolute pleasure to be on the panel. I'll take any opportunity to spread the word about the beautiful people of Palestine, even if it pushes me out of my comfort zone.
Making 'This Is Who We Are' might just end up as one of the most meaningful projects I'll ever work on, and I have no reservations about that what so ever. It took me over 3 years, and I'm just so happy that it's over the finish line and I can share it with others. FREE PALESTINE.

My documentary 'This Is Who We Are' is now available to watch online. See link in bio.

Those who know me know that this project has been close to my heart since 2019, and I’m absolutely over the moon to finally be sharing it with the world.

Thanks to the generosity of the amazing people who donated to the crowdfunder, we managed to give the film a strong 12-month run through the international film festival circuit. We were over the moon to receive 4 wins, 3 honourable mentions, and selections at 12 festivals.

The film was shown in the UK, Madrid, Indonesia, New York, Sweden, Denmark, Vancouver, and Toronto.

The film was made in association with re:ply skateboards and their amazing work in Palestine, helping people recycle skateboards and give them a new lease of life.

It also tells the story of SkatePal, a non-profit organisation that builds skateparks in Palestine and organises volunteer trips for people to go over and skateboard with the locals.

Now more than ever, we must make every effort to humanise the people of Palestine and show the world how beautiful their country, and their culture really is.

Hopefully, this project can play at least a tiny part in that.

I hope you enjoy the film.

TRIGGER WARNING / SENSITIVE CONTENT. LINK IN BIO:
I filmed this short film a few years back, and I’ve sat on it until now, mostly for technical reasons i.e. getting the edit/colour grade right, but also because I didn’t really know how to approach getting it out into the world.

Mental health is such a fragile and important topic, and unfortunately, for many young men in particular, talking openly about it is still a huge taboo.

I overheard two women talking in the gym recently. One was explaining how work had been getting her down—how her manager was disrespecting her, how it had affected her sense of self-worth, and how the stress followed her home. The fact that she was expressing something so personal in public didn’t faze me, or anyone else around them. It felt… normal. (I understand opening up isn't easy by default for all women).

I couldn’t help but think that if this was two blokes having this conversation, I guarantee it would have stood out as uncommon to anyone that heard.

Guys (typically) don’t talk like that. We don’t open up, we don’t feel comfortable showing our insecurities, we don’t feel comfortable saying “dude, I’m going through a sh*t time right now, I need a bit of support”. I have no idea why this is, but I’d bet that if we did open up more, we’d be in a much better place, individually and collectively.

This film isn’t really inspired by anything/anyone in particular, I just had the idea a while back and I thought it shared a helpful message, so I thought I’d make it. Everyone’s story is unique, this is a fictional story about one persons journey through dark times.

If this film brings anything to the surface for you, please consider reaching out—to a friend, a loved one, or a professional. You don’t have to go through things alone.

Please, don’t be afraid to be vulnerable.

Few post shoot notes from a recent ad I shot:

- Summer in Vancouver is actually summer, you'll sweat harder than you've ever swat (I know) before.
- @crowgirl1 is a dream to work with
- DIY dollies are just fantastic.
- All your childhood experience of climbing stuff doesn't prepare you for standing on a basketball hoop with all your camera gear. Get a ladder next time.
- Cramming a whole scene into like 45 mins of magic hour sucks, the sun moves 3x faster than normal, but having an incredible cast and crew makes it WAY more manageable.
- Clare Laverty is a saviour
- Every set needs a Jacob Walker (for talent AND using bounce to provide shade)
