What a whirlwind month for our family:

We moved away from Orange County, our home for 20 years, and said some tearful goodbyes to wonderful friends and family. 3 weeks in and barely settled in North County San Diego, we got a call from our adoption agency. 3 days later we met our new baby girl! We are proud to announce:

June Marie Hilken born on July 7

She joined our family through adoption and our hearts could just burst with joy! She is the sweetest baby and she has stolen our hearts. Elliott is the best big sister and we’re so proud of her. It all happened so fast, and we’re slowly settling in as a family of 4. God is so good, and every part of this was clearly orchestrated by Him. Adoption holds the tension of joy and deep loss, but we are so grateful to be a part of little Junie’s story! by @colbyhilken

1,020 Race Miles. 5,000 Training Miles. 833 hours of Running

70 total races in 27 cities. 4 Full Marathons. 58 1/2 Half Marathons.

Long Beach has always been my favorite course. It was my first half marathon. It was the course I got my record on (sub 1:30). I also finished a Long Beach race to find a text from a friend that my wife had a crush on me and I should ask her out 😘 .

For 13 years, running has been my sport and hobby and a way to have “me” time. I have gotten to see new cities and meet new people that I may never have met. I loved it and I still do love it. My knee, however, disagrees.

Big shoutouts to Katie Kobzeff, Nick Bogardus, and most importantly my beautiful wife, Sarah. @katie_kobz enticed me to run my first Long Beach Half in October 2011 and she got me hooked and hasn’t stopped cheering for me ever since. @nickbogardus has always pushed me to make running a team sport and I always loved it. He’s always inviting me on runs and I always appreciate it afterwards. He is one of the examples of if you push a person hard enough, you can make him take on running as a hobby (you’re welcome Kim Bogardus).

Finally, thanks to my wife. @sarahhilken likes her sleep and one of the things that she would not normally WANT to do is to wake up at 4:30 on a Sunday morning with me, but she did it time and time again. She was my biggest supporter and always willing to help me while also supporting my desire to do this. I love her so much.

At the beginning of 2017, there was a note at our community mailbox asking if anyone could give “Harley” a good home. Trixie and “Harley” always enjoyed each other on walks, so we toyed with the idea of taking him in. After one play date, we fell in love. He was 9 years old at the time, so we figured we would give him a good remainder of his life.

If you ask anyone about Charlie, they would say he’s always happy and loving. He didn’t mind playing the role of Beta to Trixie’s Alpha and he was always down for a walk and a treat.

Today was his last day on earth. He was the best boy and now he is free. He was very loved and he loved even more! We love you Charlie Buckets! @sarahhilken by @colbyhilken

Wow! I’m so blessed to have these women in my life. It’s been a rough couple of weeks and I’m not sure what I would do without them in my life.

Sarah is an amazing mom to raise a daughter with. She’s so intentional and loving. I’m not sure how she does it!

Judy (Mom). Without her, I would not be the man that I am today. She shaped me and molded me every step of the way. Through rebellion and the fun times, she was always there and I truly love, and like, her.

Laura (Glo). She helps raise my daughter as my wife and I work and she is so patient and understanding of my handful of a child, Ellie. I’m so thankful for her and she is so organized and thinks ahead for special things with Ells all the time that I don’t even have the capacity to think about.

Happy Mothers Day to these strong women. I love you all and thanks for so amazing and such great examples of love, respect, caring and patience in my life. by @colbyhilken

Whisked away my bride this weekend for her belated birthday. We did nothing and really loved it. Had some good food and laid by the pool. Introducing the Cotton Candy Unicorns! This past season I have gotten the opportunity to coach this AYSO U6 Girls team, on which my Goddaughter is the star. The girls are so fun and energetic and I just love seeing friendships blossom on the team and how they get better every single week. by @colbyhilken

My little baby girl turns 1 today. She has so much personality and so many cheesy faces to back that up.

We had so many firsts this weekend: first run with daddy at the Back Bay, first time seeing a horsey, first steps (video a few swipes away), and her first birthday. @sarahhilken and I are so blessed. We mostly just look at pictures of her after we put her down to bed.

Just in awe of God’s blessing of her in our lives.

Another @ocmarathon in the books. Saw some awesome people on the way too @david_walters at mile 3, @edmondmatthews2 at mile 5, the cutest cheerleader in the world at the finish and my biggest cheerleader @sarahhilken carting around the cutest cheerleader. Elliott’s first marathon and she had a blast watching everybody. Lots of stimuli. Clocked in at 1:39:11 and my goal was 1:40:00. taken in OC Fair by @colbyhilken
