My name is Nathan, I’m 25 years old and originally from Figeac, a small town in the south of France. I’ve been doing street photography for over a year and a half now, and I’m currently based in Toulouse.

I try to shoot almost every day. What inspires me the most are the things that stand out — moments or scenes that often go unnoticed, even though people might walk right past them without realizing. I like to capture what’s hidden in plain sight.

During Carnival, our brain becomes more inclined toward spontaneous behavior and lowering inhibitions. The combination of music, celebrations, and the sense of freedom that defines this festival leads to an increased production of endorphins—neurotransmitters that promote well-being. This boosts the desire for social interaction and, in many cases, kissing.

Moreover, the intense sensuality and strong sense of community during Carnival reduce feelings of modesty and make people feel more connected. The festive context and the atmosphere of collective excitement can activate the limbic system, the brain’s emotional center, facilitating behaviors like kissing.

In Rio, the Carnival kiss is much more than just a romantic gesture—it is a symbol of freedom, lightheartedness, and celebration. It is not merely an act of love but a form of emotional openness and connection between people.

During this festival, where the boundaries between individuals seem to disappear, the kiss becomes a universal language of unity and togetherness. The fleeting and playful nature of Carnival makes this gesture a way to express joy and the desire to fully embrace the moment, free from worries.

Set in Dublin, Ireland, Neptune Estate is an in-depth, detailed case study of a suburban housing estate, its neighbouring spaces, and residents, that unveils the cultural and communal habits deeply embedded in a distinctive yet traditional environment. The narrative takes shape through the lens of detached observation, and goes beyond documenting external facades. By presenting a holistic portrayal of the symbiotic relationship between lifestyle and environmental setting, Neptune Estate offers an intimate observation of the cultural microcosm thriving within its confines, whilst exhibiting the relational dynamics of the subject matter at the centre of its narrative.

I’m Shanti and I’ve been living in Milan for two and a half years for my studies. After shooting digitally for a few years, I decided to embark on an analog journey. I started to see digital photography as somewhat “flat,” feeling the need to be more intentional with my shots and to take them only when truly necessary.
After all, I’ve always watched movies on film and loved photos of bands that no longer exist. From my first rolls of film to the latest ones, my perspective on subjects has changed greatly, and so have my compositions. In recent shots, there’s no longer a focus on precision or symmetry—which I once sought so much when I was younger. Now, there must be intimacy, which is the key to
everything.
