This September in Tirana, we met with several future users of the Public Administration Cluster, alongside our architectural partners Atelier 4, in a meeting hosted by the Albanian Investment Corporation. The discussions focused on revisiting the project’s vision and design goals, while better understanding the evolving needs of the departments that will eventually occupy the building.

The project brings together more than 20 public institutions currently scattered across the city. Its open ground floor, with plazas, shops, and green courtyards, invites citizens in, while Jacopo Foggini’s polycarbonate rods, inspired by traditional Albanian textiles, weave through the building and filter natural light. Conceived as a low-rise, modular, and sustainable development, the project is designed to adapt to the city and its evolving needs over time.

The project is now preparing to move into its next phase.

We’re pleased to share that Lake 11 Residential Park has been selected as a finalist in the @share_architecture_awards 2026 London Final in the Housing category. Located in Budapest, Lake 11 is the first completed phase of an 8-hectare masterplan. The project includes 175 homes with shared green spaces, pedestrian-focused areas and a close connection to the surrounding landscape. Sustainability is an important part of the concept, with green infrastructure and fossil fuel-free geothermal energy integrated into the development.
Congratulations to all the projects selected for this year’s London Final.

Twenty years of Coldefy’s projects, ideas and encounters are brought together in a new monograph published by @arquitecturaviva_ . The book reflects on Coldefy’s architectural practice across Europe, Asia and North America, from the scale of the city to the detail of materials, from the relationship between architecture and nature to the collaborations behind each project. Isabel Van Haute was awarded the insignes de Chevalier des Ordres des Arts et des Lettres by Klaas De Rycke during Coldefy’s 20th anniversary celebration at the Maison Delcourt, a jewel of modernism by Richard Neutra. For Isabel, this honour carries a particular meaning. Born and raised in Belgium, she chose to make France her home and has contributed to its architectural and cultural landscape, while helping Coldefy grow into an international practice, with projects and collaborations across three continents. It is a recognition that culture, architecture, arts and letters are enriched by people from different backgrounds, and that contributions can transcend borders and languages. Throughout this journey, the ambition has remained the same: to question, explore and bring something new and unexpectedly beautiful to every project. This honour is also a celebration of the people who have made the journey possible: the Coldefy teams, past and present, clients, collaborators, friends and family. And after twenty years, the curiosity remains. New challenges, new conversations, new places and new ways of doing things await.

‘That moment when an architect stops presenting and starts thinking out loud, that's where you actually meet the project.’

After working in London, Paris, and New York, @ThomasColdefy established @Coldefy.fr with Isabel Van Haute in 2006 in Lille.

Combining conceptual clarity with architectural expression, Thomas has spearheaded some of Coldefy’s most prestigious projects, including the France Pavilion at the 2025 Osaka Expo, a collaborative proposal to renovate the European Parliament in Brussels, and the winning design for the National Pulse Memorial & Museum in Miami.

This year, he joins the #WAF jury in Fort Lauderdale – we asked him about the festival, why it’s important and how entrants can stand out during their crits. Swipe left to read more! by @coldefy.fr

Celebrating 20 years of Coldefy also gave us the opportunity to look back at a selection of 17 projects that reflect the diversity of our practice across France and internationally.

From our very first project, the Hong Kong Design Institute, to Peuple Belge in Lille; from the Fondation de Chine in Paris to the Hermès leather goods workshop in the Ardennes; and from the Bao’An Cultural Center in Shenzhen to the Osumi Canyon Research Project in Albania, these works reflect two decades of encounters, contexts and architectural exploration.

Bringing this selection together in the exceptional setting of Richard Neutra’s Villa Delcourt — his only creation in France — offered a unique perspective on the journey so far. A moment to celebrate what has been built, the people and places behind each project, and the ideas that continue to shape what comes next.

What a ride since Isabel Van Haute and Thomas Coldefy’s start 20 years ago! This 20th anniversary party was truly a night to remember.

Coldefy celebrated its 20th anniversary at the Maison Delcourt, the only French project by modernist master Richard Neutra, surrounded by the people who made this journey possible.

It all began with an anonymous open competition for the Hong Kong Design Institute, won in 2006, right after Thomas and Isabel had moved back to Lille from New York. They were young, a little naive, incredibly determined, and they haven’t stopped since.

For Coldefy, architecture has always been a framework for life: activating the ground, connecting people to nature and to the city around them, and creating space for the unexpected, the delightful and the beautiful to happen. From the Arboretum in Lille to the European Parliament in Brussels and the National Pulse Memorial in Orlando or the France Pavilion in Osaka, every project has reinforced the same conviction: that architecture starts with human relationships, with clients, engineers, communities and each other. Today, that same curiosity drives the studio to explore demountable structures, structural timber and hybrid systems, and to keep asking how architecture can serve equity, accessibility and climate resilience.

The evening also gave guests a chance to walk through an exhibition retracing 20 years of Coldefy’s work, and to discover the studio’s brand new monograph, published by Arquitectura Viva to mark the occasion.

It was also a chance for Thomas and Isabel to thank their team past and present, their partners, engineers, clients and collaborators across three continents, for 20 years of trust, creativity and hard work.

Here’s to designing for the unexpected, and to the next 20 years!

Honored to join the jury for this year’s Scape Awards — judging Architecture Firm of the Year and Unbuilt Project of the Year.

Looking at the work of fellow practices is a good exercise: it sharpens what you value in your own context, ambition, ideas that hold up even before they’re built.

Thank you @scape_magazine for the invitation.
