monthly purse-friendly expense notes from your frugal designer ~

as a single income household with little kids, our priority has been to save and invest towards financial freedoms. And that means, I don’t have tons of money to constantly buy decorate our space.

no fall decor was purchased but it’s been a good reminder to myself that our home is still cozy and warm for this season!

so here’s my little home expense diary from September (better late than never right?) -
because I truly believe decorating should be fun and not a financially stressful journey 🫶🏼 and I hope this inspires some ideas for you! by @collectedspaces_

celebrating our october baby around the table this week 🍁

we have a very basic ikea table that we’ve outgrown and although i’d very much love to swap it, doesn’t mean the memories around it can’t be cozy.

A lovely tablecloth, candles, stems, some beautiful plates is all you really need to turn a regular meal into a memorable one.

thoughts on my mind lately as a frugal designer building a cozy home 💭

as a recovering shopaholic constantly bombarded with sales, I wish i heard it more when i was experiencing the pressure to keep buying things every season instead of being intentional with purchases - especially in our small home with limited storage.

A cozy bedroom doesn’t need a whole makeover. Sometimes, it just needs a few good layers. #ad

As we move from summer into cozy season, I’m swapping our lighter bedding for cotton pillows, cotton sheets and duvet, adding warmer textures and richer layers.

And because these are pieces we actually use every day, I want them to feel as good as they look. Cotton’s comfort, breathability and made to last qualities make it one of my favorite fabrics for adding layers throughout our home.

A little warmth and suddenly the whole bedroom feels ready for the cozy season. 🤎

money ideas that help me decorate a cozy home ~

> I’m willing to spend more on something I’ll use everything - but almost never on something that’s purely decorative.

> I’ll pay $200 for the right vintage piece but refuse to spend $40 on something i only kind of life.

> I keep a running list of things I’m looking for and wait until i stumble across the right one - even if it takes 6 months.

> I mentally redesign what I already own before buying something new.

> I don’t actually try to make my home look expensive - I want it to feel authentic and comfortable to us as a family.

What I have realized from our journey is that the time and patience it takes definitely makes it worthwhile.

is there a better feeling than being cozy on a rainy day ☁️

this corner has become such a cozy space for myself in our home. It’s where I do my morning and night routines, cozy up on the chair or bed with a book, have my warm tea, enjoy the flickering candle from @brooklyncandlestudio that smells like autumn. And ofc - the comfiest pajama from @naturallife to curl up in.

So here’s a gentle reminder that sometimes the smallest shifts in our home can have the biggest impact in our routines and bring us joy 🫶🏼 by @collectedspaces_

part 5/10: can you be ambitious and still want a slower life?

For a long time, I thought those two things couldn’t really coexist.

I thought being ambitious meant building a career that asked more and more of me. But becoming a mom made me realize that the life I’m building matters just as much as the career I’m building.

I still want to create. I still want to design. I still have big things I want to do.

and time to actually enjoy the home and life I’m working so hard to build.
