There’s something refreshing about that coastal air in Newport. Julie says she puts a Dutch door in just about every remodel where it makes sense, and invites the breeze in. Coming at you with our first official topic: The friendship audit no one wants to talk about.

Are we still friends because we choose each other, or because we’ve just been friends forever? Are we being honest about the friendships we actually want to invest in? And maybe more uncomfortably… are we auditing ourselves, too?

Who do we want to show up for? When is it okay to say no? And can we give our friends the same permission?

I’m even impressed with myself. I finished on average 1-2 books a year prior, reading a few pages some nights before bed, but I started craving that experience again. So I joined a book club in hopes that I’d be able to read about half the books selected each month. Instead, I’ve read almost every one plus more in between. All for pure entertainment. A few of my thoughts:

1. Two of my favorites, hands down, were memoirs: Strangers & Start With Yourself.

2. I could NOT put down My Husband’s Wife or Verity.

3. Crying in H Mart sneaky caught me by surprise, the similarities between her mother’s cancer journey and my own mother’s both taking place in Eugene, OR. Beautifully explained journey of grief.

4. Hot take: I couldn’t finish Yesteryear. Tried a few times because of the hype and it just wasn’t doing it for me. Maybe the movie will change my mind.

5. Currently reading Thursday Murder Club and feeling confused. Keep going?

Sometimes it’s important to remember just how far you’ve come. At the beginning of the year while everyone else was happily traveling down memory lane, I felt an immense amount of sadness as I thought back to where and who I was in 2016.

I wrote this letter to my 10 years-ago self and the words poured onto the page as we sat cozied up at the beach, recognizing the 10 year passing of my mother. We read her letters, such a gift all these years later, and cried and reminisced together.

I came across my own letter the other day and it brought so much warmth. Sharing it in hopes that it reaches someone who feels thick in the grief today. There’s a beautiful walk ahead of you that you have to look forward to, too. by @colleenamelia

A fun little fact about me: it’s a dream of mine to photograph hotels. More from a lifestyle perspective than an architectural one, and because of this I’ve fallen in love with @belmond‘s imagery and newsletters. I’ve had the pleasure of staying at two of their properties in Italy, so I jumped at the chance to apply for their Photographic Residency when it was announced. Just putting this out into the universe to see what comes of it. I enjoyed the creative challenge!
