Becoming a double first class lawyer today has revealed to me a strength that I almost never knew lied within me. Because of this journey, I know what it means to take a tide moving towards me and turn it away. Because of this journey, I am aware that I can do absolutely anything I set my mind to, no matter how difficult it is. I don’t know if I’d ever have learnt this otherwise. So I’m grateful for every road that has led me here 🩶

Tomorrow, I get called to the Nigerian Bar.

On a particularly difficult day in law school last year, when I decided to just hold on to the hope of tomorrow, I thought about the posting of my call to bar pictures and the caption that could possibly capture everything that this journey had done to me. I figured that no caption would be able to capture that depth, so early this year, I wrote a poem and a short script and @sogo.cine said let’s go.

Sometime ago, my friend @mo.rugs made a post on her story about how the realization of your ability to first think, and then birth something as a creative makes you never see the world the same again. I agreed, and I’ve gone the entire time carrying that post on my heart like a stamp.

I think about how that is a testament of who I am, and how I perceive the world. About how that is the marker for how I think about things differently, from the grandeur to the everyday mundane. About how that is the reason I see the story in EVERYTHING; and although sometimes I feel like my head will actually explode with unending ideas, it’s a feeling that cannot be perfectly articulated but so beautiful to not want to gush about.

I never want to imagine what my life would be like without art at its center. Art really is the gift that keeps giving. And I know i might have said this a 100 million times, but I’m so grateful to be a creative, dissecting the world from this point of view.

This life of mine, and this my journey through university: the proof of how God carries us so tenderly, guiding the path to light even when everything around us dares to be dark. The proof that he will say, and he will actually do. The proof that all you need to do is surrender and trust him.
