On September 18, the University of Szeged (@uniszeged) team in Hungary held the 2026 Szeged Parking Day event, temporarily transforming three parking spaces in the city centre into green areas to raise awareness of sustainable mobility alternatives.

The initiative was inspired by the ideas of 75 university and high school students, many of whom also took an active role in organising the event. Researchers, students and local residents also attended, highlighting the importance of Nature-based Solutions (NbS) in urban environments.

The event was so successful that it also attracted media attention, increasing the visibility of the initiative and highlighting the importance of rethinking urban spaces in more sustainable ways.

On October 1, COmCHA's team from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil, attended the launch of the “Popular Health and Climate Emergency Surveillance Guide!”. The publication also brings together studies on the Santa Rita de Cássia II Settlement, associated with the Landless Rural Workers’ Movement (MST), in Rio Grande do Sul, and the Potigatapuia Indigenous Movement, an Indigenous people from the state of Ceará.

The guide was organized by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation of Ceará and presented by Graciela Stornini de Almeida, a popular researcher at Fiocruz Ceará and president of the Contraponto Solidarity Economy Producers Association, linked to a university extension project at UFRGS, one of COmCHA’s partners. The event also featured the virtual participation of the publication’s organizer and Fiocruz Ceará researcher Fernando Ferreira Carneiro, as well as the University’s Vice-Pro-Rector for Extension, Patrícia Helena Xavier dos Santos; the coordinator of the ComunicaEcosol extension project, a partner of the Contraponto Association, Professor Vera Regina Schmitz; settlers from the Santa Rita de Cássia II Settlement, Terezinha Ivone de Moraes and José Carlos de Almeida; and Roberta Coimbra, a representative of the Landless Rural Workers’ Movement (MST).

During COmCHA’s I International Symposium in May, UFES (@ufesoficial) Dean of Extension, Dr. Ednilson Silva Felipe (@ednilsonfelipe), recalled the beginnings of a project in Jesus de Nazareth, a neighborhood in Vitória, Espírito Santo, Brazil, that aimed to explore Nature-based Solutions (NbS). Ednilson noted that what began as a regional project has now reached an international level through COmCHA.

The project has opened discussions on governance, the internationalization of solutions, and knowledge exchange, bringing together teaching, research, extension, and innovation, while also contributing to the development of social technologies, with the ultimate goal of bringing real solutions to people and contributing to improvements in society.
