On October 1, COmCHA's team from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Brazil, attended the launch of the “Popular Health and Climate Emergency Surveillance Guide!”. The publication also brings together studies on the Santa Rita de Cássia II Settlement, associated with the Landless Rural Workers’ Movement (MST), in Rio Grande do Sul, and the Potigatapuia Indigenous Movement, an Indigenous people from the state of Ceará.
The guide was organized by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation of Ceará and presented by Graciela Stornini de Almeida, a popular researcher at Fiocruz Ceará and president of the Contraponto Solidarity Economy Producers Association, linked to a university extension project at UFRGS, one of COmCHA’s partners. The event also featured the virtual participation of the publication’s organizer and Fiocruz Ceará researcher Fernando Ferreira Carneiro, as well as the University’s Vice-Pro-Rector for Extension, Patrícia Helena Xavier dos Santos; the coordinator of the ComunicaEcosol extension project, a partner of the Contraponto Association, Professor Vera Regina Schmitz; settlers from the Santa Rita de Cássia II Settlement, Terezinha Ivone de Moraes and José Carlos de Almeida; and Roberta Coimbra, a representative of the Landless Rural Workers’ Movement (MST).
