Been playing with nerikomi techniques these days and it’s so friggin fun! The colour is achieved by staining the clay itself, so there’s been a lot of testing going on to achieve the colours I want. You can definitely expect to see more work like this from me in the future!

🌀POTTERY MARKET ARTIST🌀
Jesse McIver is a ceramicist living and working in Vancouver B.C., on the unceded territories of the səlilwətaɬ, xʷməθkʷəy̓əm, and coast salish peoples. She has been working at VCS for just over a year now!

Jesse enjoys making sculptures, figurines, and functional work. She typically makes animal forms, but often makes more abstract work using simple repetitive elements like spikes, spirals, and smooth rounded textures. Her work takes inspiration from the biological design of aquatic and terrestrial animals. She enjoys abstracting and amplifying features of creatures, and employs ideas like duplication and subtraction of body parts, simplification, and exaggerated proportions. Jesse enjoys sculpting dynamic, carefully thought through objects that bring the viewer a sense of playfulness.

Her ultimate hope is that viewers will feel delighted by her work, and that her work can express her deep appreciation for the world around her.

Another batch of work is out of the kiln and ready to find new homes! The glazes on these bad boys came out super fun, and definitely more striking in person (I’m a ceramicist not a photographer!)

Hi guys! I’m so excited to be selling my work at @vancouverceramics on December 13th. I’ll have lots of figurines, pipes, pots etc for sale.
