First of many “review” posts to come in the future. Trying something different to keep the account a bit more active as I’m diving deep into the industry yet again.

Today: Bond or Spectre?

An interesting release from Omega. I’ve always been more drawn to the Bond watches with an actual role in the films. There’s something about associating a watch with a particular scene or version of the character that makes it more compelling. With these two, I found myself focusing more on the designs themselves.

The blue Bond edition has the familiar tight wave dial, with the Bond family crest at 12 adding a small distinction. But the titanium bezel is where I’m a little undecided. I love it on my own monochrome Diver, so it’s a detail I’d normally gravitate toward. Here, paired with the blue waves and that crest, I’m not entirely sure what it does for the overall look. The contrast and raised numerals give it an almost futuristic feel—a little more than I picture for a modern Bond watch. Same material, different effect, not sure how I feel about it.

The Spectre feels more cohesive to me. The darker dial and grainy texture are what first drew me in, and the textured black ceramic bezel carries that through. There’s enough variation in the finishes to keep it interesting up close, while the polished steel and white markers keep the watch from feeling too muted.

I also like that the Spectre emblem is on the rotor. From the front, the design has room to stand on its own without the theme becoming the first thing you notice.

Both are familiar Seamaster territory, with the distinction coming mostly from the materials, textures, and smaller details. That’s what makes comparing them interesting: I usually like the elements used on the blue, but here it’s the way everything comes together on the Spectre that works better for me.

I still have more of a connection to the watches that appeared on screen, but between these two, I’m leaning Spectre.

I was never much of a hype collector, but lately I’ve been focusing on what actually interests me and why. Increasingly, I care less about whether a watch is officially limited or hard to get, and more about its real world presence - how often I actually see it online, in collections, or on wrists. Some watches aren’t rare in theory, but they’re rarely seen, and that matters more to me than market consensus.

This SMP300 fits that mindset. I was drawn to its monochrome look, then pushed it further by swapping the Milanese mesh for the original bracelet. The mesh defines the reference, but the OG bracelet makes the dial, bezel, case, and bracelet feel like one continuous form.

I’ve even started leaning into an identity around it: “The Silver Surfer,” inspired by Marvel and a clean, futuristic aesthetic. I like moving through watches without chasing noise, just following what resonates. (Though I still can’t get behind the Black Panther AP.)

At this point, I care less about universal desirability and more about whether a watch holds my attention, feels uncommon in the wild, and becomes unmistakably mine on the wrist. by @commonlywatched

3 is the right number when traveling for more than a week. My equation is always Steel + Leather Strap + Gold. It generally covers every single outfit combo as well as any occasion. by @commonlywatched

Been a while since I updated my collection. Never thought I’d be a daily Rolex guy but here I am.

Keeping it within the family, this all original 18238 is from my paternal grandfather. Who knew one of my grails was in the family!

First “President” bracelet with a double quick set at 36mm. Incredibly comfortable, not flashy for an all yellow gold timepiece, and perfect for every day that don’t include strenuous physical activities.

In the future, I’d like to get a VC 222 to hand down to the next generation… by @commonlywatched

I’m a sucker for unconventional pairings. Such as this DeVille Chronograph on a bracelet with a full double breasted pin stripe suit.

Normally, wearing it on a strap would be more pragmatic, but i can’t get over this bracelet and it is absolutely gorgeous. However, now that we’re moving into warmer weather, it is time for a strap change. taken in New York, New York by @commonlywatched

Huge shoutout to @godwatcher and @keepingtimewithwhat for putting me on @sangin.instruments

This Merlin is one of the best built timepieces I’ve owned, and as a former artillery man I can definitely appreciate the rugged feel on my wrist as well as the incredibly utilitarian finish.

The packaging is this cool tactical carrier case. I’d normally not care about the boxes because they just take up room, but this one is too sweet for me to just stash somewhere in my closet.
