Debuting the Communion Canopy for the first time, here’s some highlights from Cyber Communion 2 last month!

@edwlaw delivered the perfect warm-up set, crossing realms of wobbly wonky acid and Detroit flavoured techno, setting the energy perfectly for the night

@jazbrigham1 brought it up a notch and smashed it out of the park. Doing what she does best, giving the crowd a taste of her top tier driving groovy techno, as well as darker swampier sounds to round it off

@chrisdnkit saw us off with a journey through what the poster promised - acid electro and techno, mixed with his usual curveballs and euphoric soundscapes.

Shoutout to @connor___creates__ for helping bring the canopy to life, creating an intimate space within gut level to settle into the dark and dance all night.

Our sweaty summer party returns to @gutlevelsheffield on 19/03/26 with a special World Cup themed night, more info soon! by @communionshf

THE COMMUNION CANOPY - debuting this Friday at Cyber Communion

Are you someone who likes dancing in the dark? Hate when you tryna throw it back down and around and there's a glarish light pointing in your eyes?

Well we have the solution for YOU. Introducing our new party installation, the canopy. 40m squared of fabric dropping over the @gutlevelsheffield dancefloor, making our beloved intimate space even more intimate (no we aren't turning gut level into a darkroom).

Check out some pics of our dress rehearsal, as well as the first prototype at Space Communion back in December.

We can't wait for you to see it on Friday, get your ticket now to avoid high levels of disappointment and Tomo! by @communionshf

@jazbrigham1 layers rhythmic grooves with hard-hitting percussion, bringing you a minimal but unmistakably effective sound.

Jaz is no stranger to keeping the floor moving. Having played at gut level and grub records for us before, we are super excited to welcome her to one of the mainline parties.

From her early 160 days, she's been a regular staple across iconic Sheffield venues, now bringing a techno grounded sound inspired by her musical roots and ventures to international techno hotspots like Berlin and Tibilisi.

Get ready for the sound of beating kick drums to pulsate through Gut Level this Friday when she takes to the decks...

ROBOT HIGHLIGHT: Gygan aka Mr Moto

Gygan, a giant radio-controlled robot, which more than half a century ago entranced the world by flashing its car headlamp-like eyes, turning its head stiffly from left to right, and shuffling forwards at the terrifying speed of 10 feet a minute, is to be auctioned after decades hidden in a private collection.

The eight-foot-tall creature, weighing 1,000lbs, was launched at a trade fair in Milan in 1957, the same year as the first satellite, Sputnik, was launched into space.

EDITORS REVIEW: 3/10
Creepy looking af, all it's good for is slow dancing and being a weird robot perv. 20 years on from Elektro and it can't even light it's on ciggie, let alone smoke one. A small child could crush a can easier than this one, good for nothing peice of junk.

ROBOT HIGHLIGHT: Superman Dennis (or Dennis the Robot)

This 7ft British robot was created by Charles Lawson in 1939 in Kettering. Known as a "mechanical man, it was designed to perform human-like tasks such as controlling traffic, singing, sitting, standing, and lighting cigarettes.

It could move its articulated fingers, sit, stand, and perform basic functions, with later versions featuring improved design.

EDITORS REVIEW: 8/10
Firstly, love to see again that they had their priorities right in the 1930s with lighting cigarettes being a key human task they needed to invet robots to do. However, the design is a little bit strange, the eyes stare deep into my soul and the hat looks dorky. But if I ever need my traffic controlled AND my cigarette lit, I need look no further

Also, had no idea anything actually happened in Kettering so that's nice to see them getting some limelight for once by @communionshf

ROBOT HIGHLIGHT: ELEKTRO the smoking robot

To get you in the mood for CYBER COMMUNION we will be doing highlights of robots from history 🤖

Say hello to Elektro, no not the music genre, a 7 foot tall, 120kg robot built out of steel and aluminium for the 1939 New York World's Fair.

It could smoke cigarettes, speak about 700 words, move it's limbs and even blow up balloons. It appeared in the 1960 film 'Sex Kittens Go To College and had a dog called Sparko.

Whilst Sparko's fate is unknown, all original pieces of Elektro were eventually located and restored. Today, he is on display at The Mansfield Memorial Museum in Mansfield, Ohio (although why would you actually want to go to Ohio let's be honest).

Editors review: 9/10
I mean a robot that can chuff ciggies?? I'm glad they had their priorities right in the 1930s, ahead of it's time. Dare I say the best thing to come out of a worlds fair since crystal palace and way better than that weird sculpture they have in Belgium. Only let down by the fact you have to go to Ohio to see it. by @communionshf
