Pine medicine 🌲 just being with these beauties grounds me and nourishes my soul. The sweet sun soaked bark smells deeply of vanilla and intoxicates my lungs. I love chewing on the needles for bigger breaths and a tangy and herbaceous flavor that brings me into the present moment. 🪾 Pine needle tea is excellent for lung opening and oxygen absorption - the vitamin c and flavonoids are also excellent for lung health! Our lungs store grief and are often a great place to start nourishing ourselves when everything feels extra big. by @communityherbal

Spent the day at the @phxart yesterday thanks to @phoenixpubliclibrary culture pass! Did ya know you can get free admission to many museums, galleries, and cultural centers with your library card?! (Check their website for where to snag them) They also have many other resources like menstruation products, nalaxone, free seeds, cold water and electrolytes, and a place to cool off in the summer! I ❤️ the library. Thanks for spending the day with me @morganstclaire 🫶 by @communityherbal

Mallow gone wild! The common mallow (Malva neglecta) is so happy right now in Arizona! Have you ever seen these beauties get this large?! These lovely plants are in the marshmallow (Malvaceae) family and can be used as a local analog to marshmallow! These abundant leaves are also a great food source and are rich in vitamins and minerals, as well as mucilage (that gooey texture that is amazing for cooling down and moistening the system). This plant is often referred to as “cheese weed” because of its little fruits that resemble cheese wheels. They are perfect for making your own capers! You can use every part of this plant from the root to the flowers - what’s your favorite way to work with mallow? by @communityherbal

When I moved here at the beginning of the year, @thornplay was telling me about the desert and how there is “always something in bloom” and boy was she right. I am amazed by the desert and the colors that are rich and vibrant even as the temperatures soar. It might be a little harder to find, but the desert (including the sunsets) is juicy and full of life and color. We love her.

Grocery herbalism 🌿 incorporating herbs in the kitchen is accessible and can support us in many ways! Pictured we have some Chamomile/Manzanilla at the grocery store (swoon) in Mexico. Chamomile is a formula in itself and has several applications but I especially love it for upset bellies of digestive issues that are related to stress and anxiety. Chamomile is also a bad ass bitter and can stimulate digestion and is a lot tastier than many bitters.
Second slide is Jamaica/Hibiscus. I’m honored to have such easy to access to this beauty now that I’m in az. Hibiscus is in the mallow family (swooon) - with that comes juicy mucilage and tons of antioxidants that help keep you hydrated. Hibiscus infuses well into room temperature water and I like to sip on it all summer long.
Third slide is two different types of bitter melon at h-mart. Bitter melon is great to incorporate into meals (you can use the greens too!) as a great way to support blood sugar balance. It’s great in ground pork, turkey or tofu stir fries!
Last slide are some peppers and ginger that I am so grateful to have access to at the local farmer’s market. Both peppers and ginger are warming and can actually help promote sweating and release heat to cool off in the summer. (If you run super hot I would balance these with cooling herbs too). Peppers are great for circulation and ginger can help reduce cramping and bring warmth to the uterus.
What’s your favorite herb or plant at the grocery store? 💓🌶️🫚

Nasturtium (Teoparolum majus) !! These little beauties are easy to grow in hotter climates and are equally as beautiful as they are nutrient dense! Nasturtium flowers are loved by pollinators and have a sweet honey like floral scent that is quickly overpowered by their strong sulphuric smell. These flowers as well as the leaves are also loved by chefs for their bright colors and pungent taste that amplify dishes. Nasturtiums have antiseptic and anti microbial properties and are rich in minerals, flavonoids, and polyphenols. Snack on a few of these to awaken your senses!

I’ve crafted these flowers into a mineral herb salt that can be used in cooking or for finishing dishes. You can find this salt in our current herbal CSA.

With love xoxo

Hi friends ✨ posting has felt like a chore lately but I miss sharing plants and connecting with you all in this way. Like many things, remembering to work with our plant allies can be easy to overlook in these hectic times. Each time I remember to take my rosemary tincture I feel a rush of comfort, focus, and warmth. I am reminded that herbalism can be as simple as one tincture by your bedside or snacking on juniper berries and pine needles when you’re out on a walk.
Here’s a sweet video of my dad sniffing some rosemary volatile oils. Rosemary is one of my favorite herbs for its rich volatile oils that can quickly penetrate the blood brain barrier and promote memory and focus. My dad recently had a stroke, I’ve been encouraging him to sniff or snack on rosemary whenever he can.
Rosemary is condtraindicated for people with epilepsy.
Third slide is a sweet little Rosemary plant I’m successfully growing in 110 degrees… we love her.
Thanks @robin_o45 for this sweet video of Juliette de Bairacli Levy - goals

Neroli 🍋 this sweet scent has been one of my favorites for years while in Colorado. Smelling them fresh on the tree here in Phoenix is pure magic ✨ I love working with this herbs in hydrosol form. A few sprays of this beauty can shift my whole mood. I am curious if anyone has worked with Neroli as a flower essence? 🌿🍊 by @communityherbal
