Food justice doesn’t stop at the table. It has to include the people who cook, serve, and grow our food. At @communitykitchennyc, we value farmers with dignified pricing and trustworthy relationships instead of driving costs down. Our model also pays fair wages, respects time, and protects the dignity of our workers in the kitchen.

Good food has to be good for everyone involved in making it.

I’ve cried more in the @communitykitchennyc space than I have in any space since I was a child. Community Kitchen was my dream, and having it come to fruition on the Lower East Side, a 15 minute walk from where I grew up—and where all four of my grandparents and my mother lived—has been unreal. I am so excited to watch the team help more people in the coming years.
Saturday was the last dinner service at the Community Kitchen pilot. We were here because of your support. If you joined us, or donated, or supported in any way, thank you. If not—don’t worry, we’re just getting started.

We’re in the home stretch for our year-end fundraiser, and over the last few weeks we’ve been thrilled to see individuals from across the country giving what they can. And: we’ve got just 30% left to reach our goal.

Every voice matters and every participant makes a difference. Our pilot restaurant may be closed, but the work doesn’t stop. We built something together this fall: a place where anyone could sit down for a meal without hesitation, and where workers & farmers were valued, not squeezed. We’re shifting into analysis, planning, and partnership-building — all essential steps to make this model permanent. Help us transition into what’s next.
