🎉 Community Spring is celebrating 5 years of impact!

Over the last five years, we've worked hard toward our vision of economic justice. From launching a guaranteed income program to winning groundbreaking policy changes, we've been busy. But we're just getting started.

After reflecting on lessons learned, we've restructured our programs to deepen our impact. Our work now centers around three core program areas: Just Income, Just Power, and Just Community.

We're so proud of how far we've come, and we're even more excited about where we're headed. 💛

We are so excited to announce our newest fellow, Sarah Jacobs! 💕🥰

Sarah is a woman of unwavering faith. As a formerly incarcerated single mother, she refuses to let her past define her. Instead, she is transforming her lived experience into purpose.

Sarah’s story begins long before motherhood or incarceration. As a former foster child, she knows the ache of instability and the loneliness of navigating systems that were never designed with her in mind. Today, she carries that history as a lantern, determined to be a guiding light for children and families currently moving through the foster care system.

She has a vision to open a halfway house specifically for single mothers returning home from incarceration- a sanctuary for healing, stability, and second chances.

Sarah is a devoted mother, fiercely committed to giving her child a life that is richer, safer, and more nurturing than the one she had. Her love is intentional, her parenting is rooted in growth, and her mission is to build a foundation for her child that stretches far beyond the limits of her own upbringing. Her life is a testament to resilience, faith, and the belief that every wound can become a source of wisdom. by @communityspring

It’s me Kelly! The Operations Manager at Community Spring - on the news!

This is special for many reasons. First, because our First Annual Block Party was so important! We have a small team, and our programs needed to keep running during the planning of this event, so most of the planning fell onto me. It was a lot. I was worried. Often.

But then we sold 308 tickets. We had a kids zone that was truly popping off all day long. I have so many notes for next year - I want the crowd bigger, I want the length of the event shorter so that the crowd looks more full. But honestly, we did it, and we did it well.

Lastly, 5 years and 5 days ago, I was sitting in jail hopeless. I thought I had ruined my life with my addiction. I couldn’t see a way out of my situation or imagine a future. When I became a fellow at Community Spring about 18 months later, it changed the trajectory of my life.

What an honor that I now have the privilege of overseeing the fellowship at Community Spring as the Operations Manager. All I can do now is try my best to give fellows the gift I received from Community Spring…the opportunities and platforms needed for people to become their true selves. One thing is for sure, I’m putting my whole heart into my role like I did this event. So much love!!! Thank you to everyone who was a part of this, guests, vendors, musicians, and our partners and sponsors. ❤️ by @communityspring

A little recap from Community Spring’s first annual Block Party in Gainesville! 🎉

It was such a fun day filled with music, local vendors, artists, community organizations, and plenty of good vibes.

I only captured a few of the performers, but shoutout to FakksOnly, Confession Kids, Wire Birds, Purple Kloud, and Danny B. Hodges for sharing their talents!

We have really exciting news.

Chandra from Street Luxe Eats is coming to our block party to provide a fully plant-based menu for our vegan crowd!!! The most special part about this is that Chandra is a Community Spring fellowship alumni from the class of 2023.

She has put so much thought and energy into her menu - with items like the Golden Tofu Rice Bowl, Vegan Loaded Fries, Vegan Fried Oreos and more.

We love you Chandra! See you tomorrow!

As a team of people who have experienced the struggle of poverty and incarceration, it feels so amazing to be seen by local businesses and organizations in this way. If you haven't already, I strongly suggest you buy tickets to our block party at the link in our bio.

Represent Justice Ambassadors Julius Irving and Leigh Scott brought their recently released films to a packed screening in Gainesville, Florida, and something powerful happened.

300-400 community members showed up—from local leaders and activists to social workers, system-impacted people, friends, family, and neighbors. And after the film, people took to the mic and shared their own stories. There were tears, honest conversations, healing, and a real sense of connection. People left asking what they could do next.

That’s the power of our Ambassador films and of system-impacted storytelling. Congratulations to Julius and Leigh on a successful night, and thank you to everyone in Gainesville who showed up, listened, and shared.

If you haven’t already watched their films, The Silent (R)evolution: Freedom from the Inside Out by Julius Irving and Uncarcerated by Leigh Scott, watch now at repjustice.org/films
