Took us a whole year to edit this 7-minute piece, but hey, perfection takes time (and a lot of coffee).

The full performance of “Unexpected Bridges” by Timothy Walters is FINALLY live on YouTube.

Video recording and editing was done by Timothy Walters himself, who we were able to fund directly through the Brampton Arts Organization (BAO) Professional Development Fund.

Thank you, Thunder Bay!

A huge thank you to everyone who attended A Portrait of Northwestern Ontario, the very first Composers Canvas concert.

We’re so grateful to @magnustheatre for hosting us in such a beautiful venue, and to @cmcnational for backing this vision from the very beginning.

To our audience, thank you for attending, listening, and supporting contemporary sound art in Thunder Bay. With 85 people in attendance, this debut concert was a huge success and a sign that there’s a real hunger for new music in this community.

We’re also deeply thankful to the incredible musicians and composers who brought this program to life. This wouldn’t have been possible without their amazing pieces.

We’re just getting started!! taken in Magnus Theatre by @composerscanvas

🎨 Guest Artist Spotlight: Erin Szturm

Take some time before the concert or during intermission to explore the paintings and visual artworks on display in the lobby, featuring the work of Erin Szturm.

As an observer, collector, and researcher into the pleasures, horrors, ‘nones,’ and ‘alls’ of human experience, I hope my results reveal humorous, disgusting, spiritual, and used aspects overlapping our mundane world. Myths devoid of reason and folklore without moralities reconcile as variations of myself converse and play.

Remember me fondly, and my work? Monstrously.
– Erin

🎨 Guest Artist Spotlight: Tashie Broadbent

Tashie is an Anishinaabekwe artist from Manidoo Bawtigong and is currently studying Visual Arts at Lakehead University. Creating art was one of her earliest interactions with her culture and serves as an act of resurgence. In recent years, she has focused on reconnecting with her culture and developing her art in both a technical and personal way.

🖼 Her work will be on display tonight in the Magnus Theatre lobby as part of A Portrait of Northwestern Ontario.

Please take a moment before the show and during intermission to experience her work and the stories woven into it. We’re excited to showcase regional artists whose practices are rooted in this land and community. by @composerscanvas
