Sharing our story of first generation mandemic homesteaders; who decided to live in raw dependence of Him with unshakable faith.

Pivot …

“We need different miracles during different seasons of life. We pursue different dreams during different stages of life. We stake claim to different promises in different situations. It’s a moving target, but you have to start somewhere … “

It’s okay to have announced your plans & prayers and then pivot.

We still have the same pillars for our farm .. but they have shifted & are going to look different.

First we are farming based on our family’s needs & dreams. Hence a horse.

Second, we are farming based on a family name - legacy - hence focusing on genetics of our livestock.

We will still be selling & gifting from our farm but more on an individual/relationship instead of an on a market style setup.

For the majority, our customers will have relationships formed, connections & community.

This gives us the opportunity to truly share our farming practices without a label that has too much deceit.

It’ll also allow us to feed others through fellowship instead of a transaction; which has been a saying that has been a hot topic in our home.

But most importantly it allows us to spend the most amount of time enjoying this lifestyle with our Littles while they are still little …

a divine detour that we looking forward to.

So loved …
From a few hours old to a month old.

Truth - we are torn on what is going to be Harolds story. He is 88% Normande and we can register him. We are praying on the decision … sell him to a family where they can use him for breeding or he’ll stay here and feed our family in 2026.

Often times …
farm decisions aren’t easy.

When your youngest asked for a waffle maker for her birthday …
You now have waffles every morning for the foreseeable future.

Partial gifts that’ll last for generations are my favorites.

I like to think that in moments like this that grandma is looking down & is proud …

Food memories feel nostalgic.

My dads mom was always known for her pies & homemade noodles. Never measuring & always perfection. Might I note, no fear of sugar when it came to those pies.

Homemade pie crust made from lard that was rendered from our own pigs!

3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup lard
1 whole egg
1 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
5 tablespoons ice water

Place the flour, salt, and baking powder together.

Cut in the lard and process until the flour and lard is a sandy consistency.

In a another bowl mix the egg, vinegar, and ice water together.

Add the liquid slowly into your flour mixture.

—> Be careful not to over mix.

When the dough comes together remove it from the bowl and cut it in half.

Shape each half into a round patty and wrap individually in plastic wrap or use a gallon ziplock baggy.

Refrigerate for at least 1 hour.

Roll, shape & bake the pie dough according to your pie filling recipe.

I chilled my dough in pie plate for about 30 minutes.
375°
7 minutes is a fully baked pie crust - think pumpkin pie
15 minutes for a fully baked pie crust - think a pudding type pie

Bringing back slow food …
One new recipe at a time.

Thanksgiving Dinner …
It was different this year …
The first year we didn’t gather at Little Nanas house …
And gosh my heart ached.
But we feasted & shared memories of her.

Little Nana & Big Papa had created a home that was often filled with family & good food. Memories that’ll last a lifetime … and now it’s our turns to do the same thing; to carry on that legacy of cooking too much food that fills a table in a home where adult children want to crowd in with their own children. … 4 generations would gather around those holiday tables - isn’t that want being rich & fulfilled all about?

And that’s a wrap.
Another successful year of raising turkeys.

On Monday morning at 4:27 we were loaded up & pulled out.

The sun raise driving back to the homestead was breathtaking … reminding just how GOOD & FAITHFUL our God is.

This year we raised them in the thick of the woods with feeders spread way out. They were often seen stretching & peeking or roosting on down trees. It was rare to see the feeders crowded. Although in that last week, they were going through 25lbs - 50lbs of feed a day (interesting, the weather makes a huge difference). They went into their Alumi coop at night, where they were still roosting the night we loaded them up. This lead to smaller birds overall but, in our opinion, also took away from that fast growth of broad breasted turkeys & allowed a more natural and slow growth; of course not to be compared with the heritage breeds.
