I have been trying to learn how to waste less. So I started saving the fat I skim off broth each week and I was using it to cook chicken or beef. Well I had a big amount this week( I use the skins and bones ) so I decided to try frying chicken ( instead of using terrible for us vegetable oil) and it worked!!!! I’m drinking my coffee this morning feeling such gratitude for the deep friendships I’ve made through this space. 🙏🏼 I know, I know… social media can be a dangerous thing full of comparisons and unhealthy interactions. That being said: when you simply show up here the way you show up in real life it can be a portal to friendships you never would have had otherwise. Friendships I thank God for daily. The necklace I’m wearing in this photo came from my dear friend Kaylee (@cleanmodernmayhem) in Georgia. I never would have met this beautiful, goat loving, homesteading mama any other way. Kaylee I love you and am so grateful for our connection. I love that I have a “friendship necklace” to wear as a 46 year old woman. ❤️ I’m sitting here thinking of the beautiful women I reach out to daily for help, for prayer, for inspiration, women I share my heart with. Women I laugh and cry with. I would not be able to call these women my friends without this “Instagram tool”. I haven’t met any of these beautiful ladies in person (yet) but I know that when I do my heart will overflow with joy. To my nearest and dearest (you know who you are), I love you, I see you, and I am grateful beyond words for you. I also love that I am continuing to make deep connections and to form new relationships with the women who have joined The Crunchy Goat… nothing quite like a group of crazy goat ladies to chat with daily! 🐐❤️ Maybe I’m just feeling a little sappy this morning but I just can’t help it, I am so grateful for my sweet community of friends.

the life in this home was unreal. making dinner together, dancing to worship music, wrestling and laughing, milking the goats, going out to gather eggs and so so so much love filled this space. When was the last time you took 3 hours to cook dinner as a family and eat at the table together?

I love this. This is how my kids and I learned so much - by reading and playing together. This Sibley matching game (along with the flashcards and postcards and puzzle) were some of the first things I bought for the shop! I started with what we used and loved. When we learned about the birds in our backyard, we would find that bird in the Sibley Postcard box, and my son would narrate to me what we learned about it, and I would write that on the back of the postcard and we’d send it to my parents as a way to include their grandparents in their homeschooling. (Hint: it was a Christmas gift one year - I got my parents postcards to send to the kids and this set to send to them;). It connected us and reinforced what we were learning. Correspondence connects generations. Little did we know we’d be living with them while I build a shop that came out of these early years of bird study. The wonderful thing about nature study is - it follows you. The birds in a backyard in Worthington are the same birds in the backyard of Salem. Now we know their names, and they know us. And we all know each other a bit more. I’ve been so busy, almost too busy to keep up with everything which includes social media, so I am so thankful for all of you who are sharing on the shop’s behalf. All of this matters. You matter. Your kids and your relationships matter. And that bird on that card that looks like the bird you saw outside in your backyard today matters.
