Confluence: An Eastlake Studio for Community Design is a site to pass through. A waystation for individuals and ideas to intersect.

Big News!!!

Transmission is slowly finding form on the clock of People’s Time, relationship-to-relationship, and one aspect of the shape that it is taking is this big announcement…

Confluence: An East Lake Studio for Community Design and Bichota Coffee are set to open Fourth World Coffee & Books at Transmission, the Studio’s newly opened social design lab.

@bichotacoffee at GFS will stay open, with Confluence helping to create space for projects, gatherings, and neighborhood conversations. With the chaos the City has brought about with its redevelopment of GFS we see this as an organic partnership; neighbors in collaboration to sustain and strengthen the people and spaces we care about.

More news to follow on the concept, plans, and how you—our friends and neighbors—can help support this venture. But in the meantime, stay tuned for information about pop-ups at @transmission_mpls , and how, through membership, you can gather, celebrate, and scheme with us. by @confluencestudio

Here, C Terrence Anderson discusses Bichota's partnership with Confluence to bring coffee, ideas, and stable jobs to Transmission. As well as why, with the current state of George Floyd Square, this partnership made sense.

We still have a lot to work through to get Fourth World Coffee and Books off the ground. Expect some pop-ups at Transmission coming soon. To get going though, we need your support. We'll launch our fundraiser in the coming weeks. In the meantime, click the link in bio to donate to the project. by @confluencestudio

Join @confluencestudio 's Data / Justice Lab on Sunday, Oct. 18th at 3pm for the first in a monthly series of informal gatherings to power-map South MPLS.

In what ways does hierarchical power show up on the Southside? For instance, in the form of police abuse, municipal policies far more detrimental to the working poor, environment justice concerns?

As well, what forms of cooperative, horizontal power emerge and sustain themselves?

By discussing our qualities of experience of Southside neighbors, working hand-in-hand with statisticians and other data practitioners, we can begin to create a quantitative map to add to the facts we live day-to-day.

So, come one, come all. Let's Power-map the Southside. by @confluencestudio

Do you live in the neighborhoods close to East Lake Street?

Do you know that your care and survival is dependent on your neighbors, and not the city govt.?

Do you feel like you can’t trust the city to design a future where you thrive?

We want to hear from you!

Join Confluence: An East Lake Studio for Community Design to help conceptualize Southside Futures, a new media platform which asks, “How do we tell the stories of our future and build towards those visions?”

@ Transmission 2521 27th Ave S
Tuesday, Sept. 15
6:30—8:30pm

Bring any dish for the potluck, or just enjoy the bounty, as we consider a future of collaboration, care, and mindful entanglement within our Southside neighborhoods. taken in Powderhorn Park by @confluencestudio

Data Walk on Public Safety
7-9pm, Thursday August 27
Transmission (2521 27th Ave. S MPLS)

Join Confluence’s Data/Justice Lab and the Reinvestigation Workgroup for a “Data Walk” on Thursday, August 27th—7-9pm. Together we will discuss visualizations of public safety data with neighbors, listen to your interpretations, and more.

Furthermore, help us as we move forward with our work. In the coming months and years the Data/Justice Lab and collaborators plan to “power map” the Southside, illustrating how hierarchical power exerts itself in our personal, private, and social lives, as well as how we, from below, attempt to respond and redistribute that power more equitably.

Your reactions, ideas, and questions will drive our work with the Data/Justice Lab, Reinvestigation Workgroup, and DSPACE Research Group in the months to come! If you are interested in how the quantitative and qualitative intersect, join us! We welcome everyone and no prior data experience is required. Let’s work together to illustrate this evolving map.

Oh man… we just got back from a week in Detroit (City, the place to be!) and we are overjoyed and appreciative of that place (shout-out to the incomparable @talkingdolls —and of course our buddies and hosts at @bulk_space ) Confluence’s work as an organizing partner of @mdw.coalition is, has been, and continues to be rewarding beyond measure. So much of the Studio’s work focuses on our home within the South Minneapolis neighborhoods close to East Lake Street and the thought and culture that makes our neighborhood so vibrant. But to be able to understand the complexities of our friends working in other neighborhoods and towns, reservations and rural outposts around the Midwest has made our understanding of where we call home even richer, not to mention broader. Also, the vast array of folks involved within MdW — through gatherings, drifts, or acts of publication — is joyful and inspiring. There’s just too many people to shout-out! The artists and culture-bearers of the Midwest holding it down, making it happen, prioritizing care, weirdness, and human centered futurity is second to none. For now, we extend so much love to our MdW collaborators @publicmediainstitute @p_s_won @bigcarpix @parprojects @wormfarm_institute @racingmagpie @manoominartsinitiative @weareprojectproject @bulk_space @charlottestreetfoundation @schoolforruralculture taken in Detroit, Michigan by @confluencestudio
