Confluence: An Eastlake Studio for Community Design is a site to pass through. A waystation for individuals and ideas to intersect.

POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Here, C Terrence Anderson discusses Bichota's partnership with Confluence to bring coffee, ideas, and stable jobs to Transmission. As well as why, with the current state of George Floyd Square, this partnership made sense.

We still have a lot to work through to get Fourth World Coffee and Books off the ground. Expect some pop-ups at Transmission coming soon. To get going though, we need your support. We'll launch our fundraiser in the coming weeks. In the meantime, click the link in bio to donate to the project.

Join @confluencestudio 's Data / Justice Lab on Sunday, Oct. 18th at 3pm for the first in a monthly series of informal gatherings to power-map South MPLS.

In what ways does hierarchical power show up on the Southside? For instance, in the form of police abuse, municipal policies far more detrimental to the working poor, environment justice concerns?

As well, what forms of cooperative, horizontal power emerge and sustain themselves?

By discussing our qualities of experience of Southside neighbors, working hand-in-hand with statisticians and other data practitioners, we can begin to create a quantitative map to add to the facts we live day-to-day.

So, come one, come all. Let's Power-map the Southside.

Data Walk on Public Safety
7-9pm, Thursday August 27
Transmission (2521 27th Ave. S MPLS)

Join Confluence’s Data/Justice Lab and the Reinvestigation Workgroup for a “Data Walk” on Thursday, August 27th—7-9pm. Together we will discuss visualizations of public safety data with neighbors, listen to your interpretations, and more.

Furthermore, help us as we move forward with our work. In the coming months and years the Data/Justice Lab and collaborators plan to “power map” the Southside, illustrating how hierarchical power exerts itself in our personal, private, and social lives, as well as how we, from below, attempt to respond and redistribute that power more equitably.

Your reactions, ideas, and questions will drive our work with the Data/Justice Lab, Reinvestigation Workgroup, and DSPACE Research Group in the months to come! If you are interested in how the quantitative and qualitative intersect, join us! We welcome everyone and no prior data experience is required. Let’s work together to illustrate this evolving map.

Rebel City Los Angeles (Guide 6, 2018) was Llano Del Rio's map of the city from below. Inspired equally by Sean Baker's LA film Tangerine, David Harvey's book, and the Municipalist Movement the guide located LA based organizations seeking to build a grassroots civic infrastructure in the fields of food, housing, critical infrastructures, and legal rights.

Injecting a public library system with art and artists is incredible (everyone should try it!) but we’ve always been trying to do something more. And when we say 'more' we don’t mean more for the sake of more-ness. We don’t mean every exhibition should feature 150 artists (lol, guys that was ONE time!). We all know there’s such scarcity for artists working and living in Wisconsin and it’s easy to feel like the Bubblers efforts are just a drop in the bucket.

We (librarians, bubbler staff, library facilities team, and lots of others) really are trying to create an evolving, supportive entity for working artists in the Madison area. Through connecting humans to one another and to resources, we get to facilitate peer mentoring, neighborly support, creative exploration through books & beyond and space to realize projects to their fullest. It isn’t easy always existing in this gray area - but we’ve found there’s a lot more of us floating in the gray than you’d expect.

Last month Bubbler staff members, Carlee and Trent were fortune enough to attend @mdw.coalition Summit, a convening consisting of Midwest based artist organizers and artist-led spaces. WE WERE RIGHT AT HOME. It’s hard to even put it into words just how powerful it is to be presented with a week of nourishment, inspiration, real time learning and real life dreaming — built for us, by us.

The city of Detroit and the people who call that city home were the main character. Attendees got to explore so many art spaces, exhibitions and studios. We got to learn from peer organizers through workshops, tools, and conversations rooted in HOW we're all making it work and WHY we continue to foster creativity in our worlds throughout the Midwest. These connections, laughs, tears, adventures, stories and solutions will continue to be a thread in what we bring to @madisonpubliclibrary and beyond.

Please spend along all the luck, blessings and grants to those organizations and individuals who helped pull off such an experience for the 250+ arts organizers who attended.

Curiosity Studio was lucky to be present for last week’s @mdw.coalition in Detroit. Endless gratitude for the organizers and labor that make it the best time, every time. Special thanks to the artists of Detroit that opened their doors and shared their stories. It is a gift to be in practice with y’all! 🫶

Post MdW Fair Haul -

I’ve tried to tag all the publishers but some aren’t on IG. If you’re interested, shoot me a msg and I can link you. I’ve also got a stack of approx. 250-350 prints to redistribute for free from artists all across the Midwest! All of these things will be living at @creaholland. Wanna thumb through some books or pick up a free print? LMK!
