After ten years of navigating the intense world of the architectural practice OMA, one might expect a certain weariness to have set into Giulio Margheri, however, what emerges is a portrait of endless curiosity.

During the conversation with Anna Lazzaron, Giulio reflects on his experience on the fast edge of architecture, as his job often lies in combining the slow pace of his profession with breakneck metabolism of fashion.

Yet, beneath discussions about architecture’s intersections with ephemerality, curation, and cinematography, lies the challenge of sustaining a practice built on constant reinvention.

As the building typologies that once defined OMA evolve from their landscape, the office faces the same question confronting the entire profession: where can architecture exist now, and what forms might it take?

Tom Ducarouge has built his design practice on principles that run counter to commercial industry norms: stay close to the material, stay close to the making.

The designer manufactures most of his work locally in Paris, maintaining the kind of hands-on relationship with his designs that has become increasingly rare today.

His approach is grounded in storytelling, where objects become vessels for narratives.

Recent projects showcase his range: from producing 800 mirrored steel stools for Gucci in just four weeks, to a heat-reactive table for On Running that shifts color with temperature changes.

Jorge Penadés runs his design practice like a laboratory, testing and rethinking materials, form, and process at every turn. His work is driven by curiosity, a real respect for existing knowledge, and a quiet insistence on not repeating what’s already been done.

Every project begins with close attention to materials: where they come from, how they age, and the cultural and environmental systems they belong to. Growing up in a post-crisis Mediterranean context gave him an instinct for resourcefulness and experimentation that still runs through his practice today.

Alongside his work in object design, Marcus-Bello also works in art and creative direction, building visual worlds with a quiet precision shaped by long-term thinking rather than immediate visibility.

Across these fields, his practice suggests that design’s role is less about telling stories and more about opening them, creating the space for conversations, recognition, and cultural clarity.

Jorge Penadés treats design like a laboratory, where materials, form, and process are constantly tested and rethought. His practice is driven by curiosity, a deep respect for existing knowledge, and a quiet refusal to repeat what’s been done before.

Each project starts with close material exploration. Where things come from, how they age, and the cultural and environmental systems they sit within. Growing up in a post-crisis Mediterranean context shaped his instinct for resourcefulness and experimentation.

Making, for him, is inseparable from thinking.

In the work of Nifemi Marcus-Bello, design grows out of conversations between materials and place, inherited knowledge and contemporary urgencies, and the object itself and the systems behind it.

Based in Lagos, shaped by a Pan-African upbringing and European training, he moves through these intersections sensitively, building a practice that feels grounded but always looking forward.

His projects rarely start with answers, but with questions, sought from everyday life, production processes, or the subtle strains of context.

He reads materials not just for what they can do, but for what they mean, culturally and socially.

Form as sustainable act. Architecture as cultural statement.

These are the pages where the volume slows down. The interviews in Issue 1 spend long enough with each contributor to ask what their work actually costs the world, and what it gives back.

Anne Holtrop on material as memory. Boonserm Premthada on earth and labor as the same subject.

Kengo Kuma on structures that age rather than perform. MVRDV and OMA/AMO on form as a position, not a style.

Nifemi Marcus Bello on objects made from what a place already has. Jorge Penades and Wendy Andreu on waste as raw material rather than failure.

None of these conversations treat sustainability as a closing statement. It runs through the questions themselves, in how something is made, what it takes, what it leaves behind.

Printed once a year. Built to be kept. A slow object in a fast feed.

In an era defined by AI and algorithmic processes, Kengo Kuma calls for a return to the body and the senses. Texture, scent, sound, and the slow aging of materials become central to how architecture is experienced and understood.

His projects aim to restore emotional depth, reconnecting people to place, climate, and each other. For Kengo Kuma, architecture is not a fixed object but a living organism: it grows, weathers, and matures over time, finding harmony with its environment.

Between artistic experimentation and industrial rigor, Chris Fusaro’s work occupies a liminal space where process and form are in constant dialogue. With a background first in industrial design and then in sculpture, his career reflects a fertile connection between technical expertise and free exploration.
