Can I ask you something?

You promised yourself this summer would feel different, didn’t you.

Not half present at the school gates.
Not sneaking off on holiday to just do a few bits.
Not that low level hum of guilt because your Instagram has gone quiet again.

But here’s the thing

If your content only goes out when you sit down and write it,
switching off isn’t rest.

It’s anxiety with sunscreen on. ☀️

The coaches who actually get their summers back?
They’re not working less.
They’ve got a structure that keeps going when they’re not.

A team that knows their business.
Content that goes out consistently.
Marketing that doesn’t need them in the room.

That version of your business doesn’t happen by accident.
It gets built.

And it gets built in June. Not July.

Drop SUMMER in the comments and let’s talk about what that could look like for you. 🩷

It’s been a minute since I introduced myself, and with so many new faces, it’s time I said HI 👋.

If you’re new here, I’m Janine founder of Connected And Inspired, a boutique social media & VA agency.

I started Connected And Inspired in 2020, but the story actually began a year earlier. After returning to work from my second maternity leave, I was burnt out. The rat race of rushing between London and Surrey every day, dropping my boys at nursery and hardly seeing them, left me craving greater freedom.

Having always loved social media, I took a leap of faith and enrolled in the Digital Mums Strategic Social Media Management training. The course lit a fire in me to pursue a freelance career. I didn’t really have a plan just a desire for more.

Then in September 2019, I found out I was pregnant again. Though unexpected, we were thrilled. But the pregnancy was difficult, and the company I worked for went into administration. By Christmas, I was made redundant.

I didn’t feel sad about it. Instead, I saw it as an opportunity… to build.

From there, I began working with incredible clients, supporting them with their social media. Over time, many asked for VA support too which I took on and loved.

Fast forward to today, and Connected And Inspired has grown from a one-woman show into a small but mighty team of associates who support client delivery.

As a mum in business, I get it. The juggle. The tension that exists. The ambition to build a business you love, that serves you, while still being present for your family.

At the heart of Connected And Inspired, it’s never just about the posts, the captions, or the admin. It’s about creating space. Space for women like us to breathe, grow, and build businesses that don’t demand we sacrifice the people or moments that matter most.

My journey has been full of pivots, leaps of faith, and unexpected turns but also proof that freedom is possible when you choose to back yourself.

✨ I’d love to hear your story have you taken a leap, pivoted, or found yourself building something new after a challenge? Share it in the comments so we can cheer each other on.

The question I get asked most before someone hands over their content isn’t “how much?” It’s “can I really trust someone with my business?”

Fair question. That’s why everything we do is planned with you, approved by you and visible before it’s live. You keep the control, we carry the workload.

Dr Sophie Sterling put it better than I can: “I honestly believe my business could not be in safer hands.”

If you’re a founder earning £7k+ a month and you’re ready for that feeling, the link to book a call is in my bio.

A year ago I did all of it myself and called it dedication. Now I run a team of five around three small children, and my week has more room in it than it ever did when I was holding everything.

Here are the 4 things I can admit to as a mum running a business

1️⃣ I don’t write every client caption myself anymore

2️⃣ Some of my best ideas arrive mid school run

3️⃣ I hand over the work I’m good at so I can do the work only I can do

4️⃣ My calendar is calmer than it was a year ago, and I’m very proud of that
The best it I’m not ashamed of it either!

The shift wasn’t working harder. It was deciding which jobs genuinely needed me and handing the rest to people brilliant at them. Clients get a better result, and I get my evenings back.

Share this with the founder friend who still thinks she has to do it all herself.

There’s usually one task in your week that you keep doing out of habit, not because you’re the only person who can do it. Handing it over gives you back hours you didn’t know you were losing, and the headspace that goes with them.

The test is simple. If someone else did it tomorrow, would the result be worse, or just different to how you’d do it? If it’s only different, it’s ready to go.

Pick one task, write down how you do it, and hand it over. It doesn’t need to be perfect to be a start.

Save this for the next time you’re deciding what to let go of. Which task came to mind first? Reflect on it below if you like.

Six months ago E was posting when she remembered to. Now she’s sold out a mentorship round and launched a podcast, without doing the content herself.
‌
This is what happens when the content stops depending on your memory or your motivation.
‌
Save this if you’re planning what next quarter could look like.

What running an agency looks like this week: a lukewarm coffee, three tabs of a client’s content calendar open, and a five minute pause because someone needed help with a shoe. That’s it. That’s the behind the scenes footage nobody puts in a highlight reel.
‌
A year ago this same week would have looked like all of that plus me trying to write every caption myself at ten at night. Now the strategy sits with me and the execution sits with a brilliant associate, and together we get more out the door than I ever managed alone.
‌
Save this for the week you’re convinced everyone else has it more together than you do.

Real talk… some days mine starts before I’ve even properly opened my eyes 😴.

The client thing I need to reply to.
The post I haven’t written.
The invoice I need to chase.
The little admin job I forgot yesterday.
The thing I need to remember for next week.

And this is exactly why “I’ll delegate when I’m less busy” rarely works

Because when you’re the person holding all the moving parts, the business doesn’t just take up your working hours. It takes up headspace too.

A big part of getting support isn’t simply getting tasks off your list.

It’s getting some of them out of your brain altogether.

So, tell me…

Apparently we’re calling it chic now, and I’m here for it.

Being ambitious without letting your business take over your life.

Getting support before you’re completely overwhelmed.

Protecting your time.

Saying no to work that costs you too much energy.

And building a version of success that actually works for you.

My mum in business edition of the “kinda chic” trend.

Swipe through and tell me which one you’re claiming.

You probably don’t need more time before you delegate. And you don’t necessarily need a bigger budget either.

What you need is enough trust to feel comfortable letting someone else into the business you’ve spent years building.

Because when you’ve been the person doing everything, you know exactly how you like things done. You know the clients, the processes, the little details and the standards you’ve worked hard to create.

So handing something over can feel risky.
👉🏾 What if they don’t do it properly?
👉🏾 What if you have to redo it anyway?
👉🏾 What if explaining it takes longer than just doing it yourself?

That’s why I don’t think delegation should start with a huge handover.
Start small!

Choose one contained task that takes something off your plate without feeling business critical. Give someone clear context, show them what good looks like, then give them the space to do it.

📆 Maybe it’s scheduling your content.
✉️ Managing part of your inbox.
💻 Formatting and sending your weekly newsletter.
📱 Following up on admin that keeps slipping to the bottom of the list.

Then watch what happens.

✅ They learn how you work.
✅ You learn how they work.
✅ They ask questions.
✅ You refine the process.

And gradually, you build evidence that you don’t have to be the person doing every single thing for it to be done well.

That’s how trust is built. Not by suddenly handing over half your business and hoping for the best, but through small, successful handovers that make the next one feel easier.

The goal isn’t to lose control of your business. It’s to stop being the bottleneck in it.

Last month I had a proper wobble.

Kids poorly with a vomiting bug, night after night with no sleep. Then a health scare of my own that landed me in hospital. And to top it off, a client I’d really wanted to work with said yes, then decided to go a different direction.

I don’t hold a grudge, it happens. But in that moment, I won’t pretend I wasn’t disappointed.

Running a business isn’t a straight line up. It’s a rollercoaster, and some months all you can do is pause, take stock and reset before you carry on.

If you’ve had a month like this too, you’re not alone. Tell me about it below, I’d love to hear.
