Poets Maire Hansard & Rachel Hegarty + Lisa O’Neill read poetry together in a beautiful tribute to Glen Hansard at Vicar Street.
Maire introduces Rachel to start, they alternate poems and Lisa finishes with her song Blackbird.

Eddie Vedder leads the charge to end an emotional day in Dublin after Glen Hansards funeral.
Rockin’ in the Free World…Oh boy didn’t they ramble!!! Such a joyous sound for a celebration of the tribe.
Apologies for >cough< singing a little loudly over some of this but it was that kinda night!

The cathedral was filled yesterday with the love of Glen Hansard and the soul of Irish musicians giving it all for their fallen comrade. This was Paddy Casey leading the last notes from the building. The music never stops.

Glen came and stayed at our home in London in 2012. We had a pretty interesting yard and building as Charlie Chaplin and Stan Laurel started their journey there and it was soaked in theatre history. On the first day we made photographs that were used in his first album ‘Rhythm and Repose’ and we made the video for the single ’Philander’. Glen had a suitcase of clothes and Chelle styled the looks using some of her vintage menswear.

I have an old copy of ‘Ulysses’ and after a long lunch in our kitchen by the yard, Glen read the final pages to us (his idea!). We made a lot of coffee with my Pavoni, the same one Glen has in his kitchen, and in the evening we went to see Bronagh Gallagher play in Bush Hall. Glen did a solo set in support. Over a few days days we laughed and created and talked and hugged and drank and played. Constantly. It was fun, it was effortless, it was Glen.

I have been seriously thinking about deleting some social media accounts in recent years for obvious reasons, but the outpouring of love for this man in the last couple of days online has been a phenomenon. My heart is truly broken. All of our hearts are hurting and the calls and chats and many, many stories are pulling us close. His spirit has not gone, he is still within us all and he will never be forgotten. by @conormasterson

Anyone who ever met Glen or saw him live will be saddened to have heard the news of his passing in a cruel accident. It’s a devastating day. My heart is broken. I’ll miss the laughs. It’s a blur of vivid, vivid memories. Glen lived every moment and he brought everyone with him. I’ve never come accross such a huge heart who touched so many., and it feels like he had only started. My condolences go out to friends, family and fans - The Frames “framily”. I was very lucky to have collaborated with Glen and worked closely on many projects. ‘Let’s make art Con!’ We made a Frames film, videos, thousands of photographs and it always felt like the pinnacle of where I wanted to be and what I wanted to do. He pulled you into his world and he encouraged everyone to see the light. People floated away from his gigs like stars over a clear deep ocean. He was our full moon. If ever there was an artist who could control the tides it was Glen Hansard. RIP

The first time I saw David Hockney’s work in person was 1998 in a small exhibition of his canyon paintings at a gallery in Venice Beach in LA. The most recent was last Sunday in Margate at The Turner gallery. The huge window installation is stunning. My favourite may have been the RA show about 12 years ago despite the rabid sharp elbowed pensioners. The multi screen video installations were truly incredible. And the ipad drawsings too. The Tate Britain show more recently was wonderful. It was sold out so I snuck in the exit and saw it in reverse. 🤷‍♂️ We won’t see his like again. Always incredible and a real visionary. He saw the world and showed how to see differently every time.. I can’t begin to describe the experience of seeing what he showed us. It all started for me with book dominated by his photographic work. The polaroids, the joiners including the awesome Pearblossom Highway. (I used to have a framed poster of that but it was damaged) 88 and yet he seemed to live 188 years of life. Always try and see his work in person if you can. RIP Mr Hockney.

Josh T Pearson in London. We went to All Tomorrows Parties curated by @therealdirtythree and on the bill was the long lost @joshtpearsonmusic from Lift to Experience. Having recently read all about him in the sorely missed Careless Talk Costs Lives music magazine by @stevegullick I saw this tall Texan stride through the Butlin’s Minehead afternoon melee with his double denims and stetson (looking for someone to lasso I suppose?) I approached him and asked where had he been … he fixed me in the eye with a twinkle and a stare and said ‘Survivin’. He played @theslaughteredlambpub the following week where he was kind enough to pose for a few photos. A charming gent. The Texas Jerusalem Crossroads is an AMAZING record. They played it @guygarvey1 Meltdown in 2016 but thats another story.
Always fun to open up an old print box.
