A quick heads-up for your next visit to Conservation Garden Park! 👋   West Jordan City is currently working on improvements to widen 1300 West, and construction may occasionally affect access to our main entrance at 8275 S.   The good news: the Garden is still open during regular hours, and one entrance will always be available. If the 8275 S entrance is closed, simply use the entrance at 8215 S instead!   ⚠️ Please follow posted signs and traffic directions when arriving at the Garden, and thank you for your patience while construction is underway! by @conservationgardenpark
As a reminder, the seasons are shifting, and so is our schedule!   We’ll be closed on Wednesday, November 11th in observance of Veterans Day.   Our seasonal hours are now in effect. As of November 1st, we’re open Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.    📞 Give us a call or send us a message if you have questions while planning your visit! by @conservationgardenpark
Trick or treat! Did you know your trees still need a little TLC, even when the weather gets spooky?   As we stop watering our lawns, and temperatures drop, trees may still need occasional winter watering. That why We’re bringing back our Holiday Tree Watering Reminder series to help you keep your trees healthy through the colder months! Trees provide so many environmental and personal benefits, and proper care helps protect that investment for years to come.  By sharing these reminders around the holidays, we hope to make winter tree care an easy seasonal habit to remember.   We’ll show you how to check your soil moisture and recognize when your trees, whether newly planted or well established, need water. When the soil is dry and temperatures are above freezing, a deep watering can help keep your trees healthy.   Stay tuned for more seasonal tree care tips, because the scariest thing of all is losing a tree that took years to grow! 👻 by @conservationgardenpark
What a spooktacular evening! 👻   Thank you to everyone who joined us at Conservation Garden Park for our Halloween celebration! We loved seeing so many creative costumes, admiring your amazing pumpkin art, and watching our community get into the Halloween spirit while learning a little about water conservation along the way!   Of course, the scariest thing of all is water waste! 💧 We’re grateful to bring our community together to celebrate, learn, and discover how waterwise landscapes can be beautiful, vibrant, and full of inspiration all year round!   We’re already looking forward to celebrating with you again next year! In the meantime, our garden will stay decorated through the end of October, so there’s still time to enjoy a little Halloween magic. 🎃 Whether you’re looking for seasonal fun, inspiration for your own landscape, or new ways to save water outdoors, we hope to welcome you back to Conservation Garden Park soon! by @conservationgardenpark
Now that we’ve stopped outdoor watering for the season (hopefully you have, too!), there are still a few things to take care of before we can officially call it the end of watering season. As temperatures drop, water left in your pipes and equipment can freeze, expand, and cause costly damage. Shaun, the Conservation Garden Park Manager, is here to walk you through five important steps to protect your irrigation system before the first hard freeze!   Proper winterization helps protect your system, prevent costly repairs, and reduce water waste when spring rolls around. 💧 Not sure how to winterize your system safely? Send us a message, drop a comment, or contact an irrigation professional for help.   Follow Jordan Valley Water and Conservation Garden Park for more seasonal watering and landscaping tips! by @conservationgardenpark
Looking for late-season color with less water? Caryopteris, also known as Bluebeard or Blue Mist Spirea, brings beautiful blue-purple blooms to the landscape in late summer and fall, attracting bees, butterflies, and other pollinators when many other plants have finished flowering. 💙   This waterwise, sun-loving, deciduous woody perennial thrives in Utah’s climate! Most varieties grow about 2–3 feet tall and wide, and their dormant stems provide winter structure. They’re also considered firewise, making them a great option for smart urban landscapes. We have six varieties growing at Conservation Garden Park, each with its own unique look.   👀 Find your favorite at the garden or explore more waterwise plants in our plant database! by @conservationgardenpark
A little mystery, a lot of color! This month’s plant mood board, Haunted Hues, celebrates the darker side of the garden with deep, moody colors and bewitching botanical beauty. From rich purples to dramatic burgundies, these plants bring a little waterwise Halloween magic to the landscape. 🎃   Want to add some haunting hues to your own garden? Look up any of these plants in our plant database, or explore other options by filtering for foliage color to find plants that fit your vision!   Explore our plant database at: conservationgardenpark.jvwcd.gov/plants by @conservationgardenpark
Nothing is scarier than wasting water on invasive weeds! 🎃 This Weed Wednesday, we’re highlighting an invasive tree that competes for valuable water resources, crowds out native vegetation, and threatens the health of Utah’s natural ecosystems.   Today we’re talking about: 👉 Russian Olive (Elaeagnus angustifolia)   Why remove it? ❌ As a Class 4 Prohibited noxious weed in Utah, this tree can form dense thickets that outcompete native and riparian vegetation, alter wildlife habitat, change soil chemistry, and consume significant amounts of water.   You can identify it by: 👀 Silvery-green, narrow leaves with silvery undersides, thorny branches, fragrant yellow flowers in late spring, and small, olive-shaped fruits that turn yellow to brown as they mature.   Root system: 🌱 An extensive root system that helps it tolerate dry conditions and establish along waterways. Russian olive can also resprout from the roots and stump after cutting.   How to manage it: 🛠️ For small seedlings, pull or dig out the entire root system when the soil is moist. For established trees, cutting alone may lead to regrowth, so follow-up treatment is often necessary. Targeted herbicide treatments may help prevent resprouting when used according to the product label.   Best timing:  📅 Fall is the perfect time to get outside and tackle weeds! Remove seedlings as soon as possible, ideally before they produce fruit. Established trees may require repeated management to prevent regrowth and to stop new seedlings from taking root. by @conservationgardenpark
