I have been contemplating in my head about whether to post this or not. I finally made a decision to share my thoughts and feelings so here we go.

I have been involved in the sporting industry for my whole life. Having been a player and now on the coaching pathway my job has taken me to some incredible places across Australia and the world.

People ask how I got into tennis, I kinda laugh and I say Dad put a racket in my hand and I had no choice. I became a lover of the sport both on and off the court partly because of my Dad.

I am not going to sugar coat it here, it wasn’t easy growing up with my Dad as my coach. Fighting during training sessions, coping an ear full on the way home and more. I definitely had moments where I wished Dad wasn’t my coach so I could escape and not feel the pressure.

Yet being older now and now have more of an understanding as to why my Dad was the way he when I was growing up. Turn the page over very quickly and by my early 20’s I became the parent of my Father.

Dementia is a curl disease and it’s the hardest pill I am having to swallow. It hurts to even write it into words of how this makes me feel. My Dad hasn’t kicked the bucket yet. He’s still kicking. He has lost the capacity to have a conversation, but his eyes still light up when I walk into the room.

The more I get to travel for my job, the more I am thankful. The more I reflect on what I did when I was younger and who it was with. It was with you Dad. I am incredibly thankful for the continuous hard lessons you put me through everyday. I wouldn’t be standing where I am today if it wasn’t for you. by @constance29
