Do you know what’s more fun than writing graffiti on priceless sandstone boulders that formed thru a millions of years long process and are beloved by a worldwide community??? Climbing those boulders! If you haven’t tried it, you should!

If you’re a graffiti artist that would like to learn the joy of climbing, stop by The Desert Rat. We’ll get you hooked up with the means to try out bouldering for free. Cuz we love our local boulders and would really, really love it if the local graffiti artists could come to value them as highly as we do 🙏🙏

A huge thanks to @magnum_pa_ and his friends that have taken their time to clean off these boulders. You guys rock 👊

Guys, let’s save Moe’s Valley and Super Mario Land from development, and from ourselves. Let’s protect what makes St George such a special place to live 🙏

Attention Moe's Valley climbers!

Utah State University is running an economic impact study on Moe's Valley, looking at how climbers and visitors use the area and what we spend locally. The survey is live now.

Take the short survey every time you visit: https://usu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6zmREEPLEoTkoB0 (also tappable in our pinned Moe's Valley Survey story, so you can find it anytime)

Even if you haven't visited recently, you can answer regarding your most recent trip to Moe's. Utah State confirmed the date doesn't affect their data.

Real numbers make a real case. The more data we have, the stronger the argument for protecting Moe's Valley long term.

It's time for SGCC's first swag design contest, and we want to see your art on our next batch of shirts!

Your original t-shirt design should feature elements from the Southwest Tri-State area, as SGCC takes care of crags across Southwest Utah, Northwest Arizona and Southeast Nevada.

Three winners:
1st place: a free shirt printed with your design, a $50 Applebee's gift card, and a climbing hold magnet set.
2nd place: a $30 Amazon gift card and a climbing hold magnet set.
3rd place: a $15 Panera Bread gift card and a climbing hold magnet set.

The SGCC board will pick winners based on how well the design fits the theme, creativity, and overall appeal.

Rules & Submission

Your adventure must take place in 2026.
It must be a camping, hiking, climbing, canyoneering, packrafting, trail running, or biking adventure on the Colorado Plateau, in the Grand Canyon, or around the St. George area.
Submit documentation such as photos, video, GPS tracks, or a route description by emailing desertratsupe@gmail.com.
Finalists must be willing to give a well-prepared 10-minute presentation at Le Rat d’Or presentation night.
Submission deadline: November 28, 2026.
Judging Criteria

Submissions will be judged in four categories:

Challenge — Overall physical, technical, and objective difficulty, including endurance, distance, elevation, exposure, remoteness, hazards, navigation, and specialized skills.

Creativity — Originality of the concept, route, use of terrain or disciplines, and approach to the adventure.

Route Planning & Judgment — Quality of preparation and decision-making, including route selection, efficiency, risk management, timing, water strategy, weather awareness, contingency planning, and adaptability.

Storytelling / Adventure Narrative — How clearly and compellingly the adventure is communicated through writing, photography, video, and the ability to convey the objective, challenge, progression, outcome, and lessons learned.
