Do you know what’s more fun than writing graffiti on priceless sandstone boulders that formed thru a millions of years long process and are beloved by a worldwide community??? Climbing those boulders! If you haven’t tried it, you should!

If you’re a graffiti artist that would like to learn the joy of climbing, stop by The Desert Rat. We’ll get you hooked up with the means to try out bouldering for free. Cuz we love our local boulders and would really, really love it if the local graffiti artists could come to value them as highly as we do 🙏🙏

A huge thanks to @magnum_pa_ and his friends that have taken their time to clean off these boulders. You guys rock 👊

Guys, let’s save Moe’s Valley and Super Mario Land from development, and from ourselves. Let’s protect what makes St George such a special place to live 🙏

Stick figure artwork by Supe Lillywhite. If you can’t tell, those are beanies they’re all wearing. Cuz that’s part of the bouldering uniform 😂

Graffiti by unknown 😢

Free Clinic - How to Clean a Climb

With Rob Myers at The Desert Rat

How do you safely retrieve your gear from the top of a rock climb when you’re all done climbing it? It’s one of the most important questions for outdoor climbers to know the answer to. Commonly referred to as “Cleaning,” this is actually one of the most dangerous processes in climbing. If done improperly, it can endanger the climber and possibly result in serious injury or death.

On November 6th at 5:15 pm at The Desert Rat, Rob Myers will teach an entry level clinic for climbers on how to safely clean climbs.

A little about Rob in his own words - “I was raised in Pennsylvania and enjoyed an active lifestyle by participating in sports. I ran competitively in cross country and track & field in high school and college. I was introduced to rock climbing while in college by a good friend and have been climbing for over 20 years. I really enjoy living in the Greater Zion Area and am currently working at Utah Tech University managing the rock climbing program and at Zion Guru as a guide. I believe that the best climber is the one having the most fun. Cheers.”

You don’t have to RSVP, just show up ready to learn!

Don’t throw your expensive gear away! Get it repaired! Luis from @micr0beta is a super talented local that loves fixing gear instead of seeing it go to the landfill. Bring in your gear to The Desert Rat, follow the instructions on the poster we have, and Luis will get you a quote on making your gear as good as new!

Attention Moe's Valley climbers!

Utah State University is running an economic impact study on Moe's Valley, looking at how climbers and visitors use the area and what we spend locally. The survey is live now.

Take the short survey every time you visit: https://usu.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_6zmREEPLEoTkoB0 (also tappable in our pinned Moe's Valley Survey story, so you can find it anytime)

Even if you haven't visited recently, you can answer regarding your most recent trip to Moe's. Utah State confirmed the date doesn't affect their data.

Real numbers make a real case. The more data we have, the stronger the argument for protecting Moe's Valley long term.

Thanks for taking a few minutes for this one. 🙏
