Launching October 23

A few weeks ago, we brought the C& Cyclopedia to Joburg, with @lapa_brixton and the @goetheinstitut_southafrica. Here’s a sneak peek of C&’s Yvette Mutumba introducing the living archive for the very first time, bringing together over ten years of C&’s work centered on contemporary art from the Global Majority.

We are thrilled to welcome The C& Center of Unfinished Business by @contemporaryand to Helsinki.

Since 2017, C&’s mobile reading room has travelled to art institutions around the world, gathering books on colonialism and its effects.

This iteration, “Lateral Reading: Longitudes & Latitudes”, curated by C&’s Editor-in-Chief Ethel-Ruth Tawe (@artofetheltawe), brings together Southnord’s themes of roots, routes and records across Black geographies with the Center’s inquiry into the afterlives of colonialism. Books have migrated here from C&’s Berlin collection, while Southnord contributes a selection of art reference books from Stockholm. The space also interacts with the C& Cyclopedia, a search tool and expansive digital knowledge platform mapping new epistemologies.

Find it at @oodihelsinki from 26 October 2026 to 17 January 2027, with an official opening on 27 October.

The C& Center of Unfinished Business is now open at the @oca_norway in Oslo🇳🇴by invitation of OCA Programme Coordinator Piniel Demisse (@pinielde) for the “Deeply Rooted” library series.

Since 2017, C&’s mobile reading room has traveled to art institutions around the world, gathering books on colonialism and its effects.

In Oslo, it has opened as “counter_programming”, curated by C&’s Editor-in-Chief Ethel-Ruth Tawe (@artofetheltawe), asking: how can hybrid libraries defy algorithmic logics of surveillance and classification? In a world increasingly mediated through technology, the reading room sets out to decode the entanglements between digitality, coloniality, indigeneity, and Blackness.

Browse the collection of books, sounds, games, citations, and listen your way through the vinyls. This iteration features a station for the C& Cyclopedia, our search tool and expansive digital knowledge platform mapping new epistemologies.

From C&'s archive, Noel W. Anderson's (@nwa_studios) photo essay for @apria_journal looks at how systems of power use images and technology to speak for Black people. The essay begins with the phrase "I'm tired", which, Anderson writes, falls short of capturing the causes and effects of racial trauma. And still, it points to the significance of song, and to who gets to sing and who is sung for.

Within 'In Minor Keys' at the 61st Venice Biennale, four institutions are gathered under the designation of Schools: @gasfoundation, @raw.gram2011, @blaxtarlines and @ncai254. The term reflects the artistic and educational models they embody.

Across their works, from a borderless map drawn from Ghanaian staple foods to a timeline of the Makerere Art School, C& writer Theophilus Imani (@theoimani) finds a pedagogy built on reciprocity rather than hierarchy, and considers how lineages of knowledge and kinship are built to outlast the ephemeral.

Writer Banji Chona (@banjichona) visited Henry Tayali: "Destiny" (1962-65), on show at Lechwe Trust Art Gallery (@lechwetrustartgallery) in Lusaka from February to April 2026, looking closely at the painting and what it means for a work to return to sustained public view.

Having sat in a Zambian collection for over three decades while surfacing only rarely, "Destiny" leads Chona to ask what enables works to stay present in public consciousness.

Listen to our selected series of podcast episodes by @museumofblackfutures — a mobile art and heritage laboratory that works with communities, artists, and thinkers to imagine new forms of cultural infrastructure rooted in Black joy, radical imagination, and spiritual reparations.

In this episode, architect and researcher Patti Anahory and podcast host Richard Kofi pose the question: should The Museum of Black Futures follow the definitions set by the International Council of Museums (ICOM), a global network founded in 1946 to safeguard heritage, in order to gain access, partnerships, and influence? Or should we resist those definitions, stand outside the network, and demand our respect from a fringe position? @richardkofiart @patti_anahory

During the S+T+ARTS (@startseu) Afropean Intelligence residencies, nine artists engaged critically with AI to subvert, hack, reroute, and reimagine dominant Western paradigms. While each pushed against extractive logics in its own register, three featured work — spanning the DR Congo, Tunisia, and South Africa/Uganda — indicate the scope of the program and the patterns that emerged across its geographic range.
