How have the art scenes in the Caribbean positioned themselves within the growing “hype” around their historical and recent artistic production?

'I am a man of color', says Pascale Marthine Tayou about himself. 'This project is the continuation of my long voyage to the world of the unknown. A process of initiation enacted within contemporary ritualizations'. This time he dressed the pillars with stones of different shapes, painted in gouache, which form a kind of constellation joining earth to sky (La Colonisation -2017). These colored stones are for him a kind of self-portrait. He is undoubtedly one of my favourite artists due to his creation of imaginairy worlds based on real stories.

STAIRWAY TO .....? 'Les Independances CHACHA', 2017, is a project of Pascale Marthine Tayou. It covers the steps of the two escalators at the Fondation Louis Vuitton with the flags of 54 African countries. 'Frontiers have no meaning in my idea of a country.... Here, or elsewhere, I feel at home' says Pascal. The work reflects Tayou's conviction that each of us is a sum of mixings, encounters and thoughts.
