This October, we’re sharing a room — and a conversation.

Contour Gallery (Rotterdam) and MATTER (London) join forces at Minor Attractions, presenting six artists whose work approaches the same question from opposite ends: how do you make the intangible real?

Contour brings Paco Dalmau @dalmau_visual_art , Tjitske Oosterholt @tjitskeoosterholt and Jan Pypers @janpypers — sculptural wall painting, Polaroid collage and surreal staged photography, each artist building a world entirely on their own terms.

MATTER brings Alfie Rouy @alfie.rouy , Emilija Povilanskaitė @emilija._____ and Kenji Sakai @kenjisakai_87 — painting, sculpture and installation giving physical form to invisible forces, sensation and inner states.

Two galleries, one room, six ways of making the unreal real.

Op PAN Amsterdam presenteren wij een selectie unieke werken van Margriet Smulders, bekend om haar bloemstillevens. Het zijn beschilderde fotografieën waarin ze fotografie en schilderkunst samenbrengt: elk werk is met de hand bewerkt en daarmee een uniek exemplaar.

Smulders wordt gezien als een pionier van de bloemstillevenfotografie, maar beschouwde zichzelf altijd ook als schilder.  MINOR ATTRACTIONS is an emerging culture-driven art fair blending contemporary art, performance and nightlife.  Taking place 13-17 October 2026, this year we are excited to welcome visitors to our new home - The Newman Hotel - marking a new chapter for the fair. As ever, Minor Attractions runs concurrently with London Art Week, bringing together a curated selection of galleries, artists and cultural practitioners.

What happens when a photograph stops behaving like a window onto reality?
In his two central bodies of work, Synthese and Deconstruction, German artist Ralf Brueck explores photography as something that can construct, distort and ultimately become its own reality.
In Synthese, landscapes, caves, botanical scenes and geological formations are digitally transformed, merging colours, elements and perspectives into strange new unities that hover between the natural and the artificial.
Deconstruction takes the opposite route. Architecture and urban spaces are dismantled through the image, pushing photography towards abstraction — at times bringing it closer to painting or drawing.
Construction and destruction become two sides of the same question: what happens to reality when a photograph begins to assert itself as an image independent of the world it depicts?

RALF BRUECK — OPENING 11 SEPTEMBER

Ralf Brueck takes the camera as a starting point, not an endpoint. A photograph is broken down, mirrored, and rebuilt until a pagoda becomes a totem, a cave becomes coral, a corridor becomes infinite. The result sits somewhere between photography and construction — recognisable, yet entirely reinvented.

Trained under Thomas Ruff at the Kunstakademie Düsseldorf, Brueck continues the school’s rigorous eye while pushing it into radically new territory: digital deconstruction as a way of questioning what a photograph really shows us.

Join us for the opening on 11 September, with the exhibition continuing on 12 and 13 September alongside Art Central Rotterdam.

Last day of @artislandamsterdam where @contour.gallery at room 11 is introducing the solo presentation "Memories of a Dune" by Paco Dalmau.
It's being a fantastic days at @forteilandijmuiden , a unique and impressive location at the north sea channel at the doors of Amsterdam.

Memories of a dune by @dalmau_visual_art is now to be seen at Art Island- Find us in room 11

TheEvolution series revolves around a principle already known to medieval monks: the palimpsest. They scraped texts from precious parchment to reuse it — the old disappeared, but not completely.

Dalmau works in a similar manner. He applies layer after layer of paint to older paintings, ten, fifteen, sometimes twenty times, sands away parts, adjusts, and starts over.
