POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

The last drops of ink and acrylic white were applied this morning to complete a project that consumed countless hours of physical and emotional labor. It was equally an offering of respect and solidarity within my abilities and also a way for me to quite literally work through what watching the horrors and crimes against humanity shown daily on this very platform does to a soul. While lives of so many continue to be altered forever since ‘48 and before in order to satisfy the mania for conquest, so many who fight daily and are committed to resistance and refusal of apathy all around the world have inspired others to stand up and share their abilities to speak up and aid in material ways. Here is a small contribution from my most sincere heart and hands and by no means is it the first or the last. (Full disclosure, the bottom line of text comes courtesy of GYBE who’s most recent album was a staple while creating this.) by @coolhandken

Roughly 24 years ago, I created a situation for myself that resulted in something I will physically carry with me for the rest of my life. In short, it was a fight. What I failed to see in the moment in a 20-something brain was the future that would be created from a violent moment that ultimately resulted in a disability on my dominant arm. I live and work with a disabled arm every day and it causes issues that I routinely must care for through rest and exercises. I’ve learned to work around the mobility restrictions and two decades of chronic fluctuations of pain but things just take more time for me all around especially as I age. In 2020 I broke the same arm again but this time in a bicycle accident and the break was a direct result from the metal plate and the fused radius and ulna that came from the major surgery and metal put to the ulna. I’m sharing this for two reasons. One, to quote Miss Argentina in Beetlejuice, “If I knew then what I know now, I wouldn’t have had my little accident.” I.E. a fleeting choice to fuck someone up who was acting like a menace resulted in a major physical change to my body forever. The other reason is through this and also being raised by a disabled father, I’ve learned that some things just take more time for some. It’s ok… things get done and they get done well but patience and understanding is important. Thank you to people who are patient and check in with others. Sometimes we don’t see what issues lie beneath the surface unless we ask or people share them. by @coolhandken

“The Innocence Is Gone. Move on!” Sign painters enamel and gold leaf on hand cut panel 2026
****The title is taken from a song named “Farewell” by a hardcore punk band named American Nightmare (fitting) I grew up listening to this with a perspective that it was meant as a breakup song. I now feel in my 40’s that the pain and liberation of breakups aren’t only relegated to romantic relationships. You can also break up your relationships to systems and toxic beliefs to open new horizons and align with others. To constantly evolve and fight. This is where I am at on this subject.
Included are photos from the first show @weareamericannightmare played at Gilman as well as a later one from the Pound SF on their tour with Converge.

Thank you @ffttnw for agreeing to show this painting this week in Seattle. by @coolhandken
