When I was 12 a horse I was riding panicked on trail, backed down a hill, and flipped on me. This level of panic, from a horse I didn’t know, mirrored my own struggles. My own panic disorder. I struggled with anxiety before then but after the accident it shifted to worse riding anxiety. I had a choice to live in that moment or move on. Move on does not mean forget and we can often learn from these situations. However, if we are going to be present with horses we must allow ourselves to be. To be in the moment. Not in a moment from an hour ago, a day ago, or 30 years ago. Horses are healers. They are ready to join us on a journey of courage and freedom. In order to join them you must trust that they will not lead you astray. Every victory, every accident, every death, every milestone, it’s all for a purpose. To get to go on a journey of love and growth with a horse 🖤 by @corey__stein

It’s been 7 years since I put Pepper to rest. Not a day goes by I don’t think of him. Not a day goes by I don’t feel him with me. Without knowing it the appointment was scheduled on the first day of Spring. The season where everything is growing, a time of rebirth. The moment I felt his energy lift from his physical form I knew he didn’t actually go anywhere. His energy wrapped around me like a hug and it’s never left. I’m so grateful to him, for all he’s done, and continues to do for me. He taught me more then words can describe and very little of it actually had to do with horses. As the years continue to go on, I grow and change knowing he’s always there. I really couldn’t ask for anything more ♥️ taken in 𝓗𝓮𝓪𝓿𝓮𝓷. by @corey__stein

“Plants and animals don’t fight the winter; they don’t pretend it’s not happening and attempt to carry on living the same lives that they lived in the summer. They prepare. They adapt. They perform extraordinary acts of metamorphosis to get them through. Winter is a time of withdrawing from the world, maximising scant resources, carrying out acts of brutal efficiency and vanishing from sight; but that’s where the transformation occurs. Winter is not the death of the life cycle, but its crucible.“

Any other horse people have some perfectionistic tendencies?

If you are an equestrian chances are you have struggled with feeling like your riding isn’t good enough. It doesn’t matter if you ride by yourself in your backyard or you take 6 lessons a week… perfectionism can creep in. Of course we all want to improve and be the best version of ourselves we can be for our horses. The more balanced, more educated, and stronger we are the better it is for our horses and the safer it is for us. However, not thinking you’re good enough can be crippling. It can lead to not wanting to ride, feelings of disappointment, and even anger. Remember your horse does not know those feelings are directed at yourself and they feel EVERYTHING. So the next time you get off and think, “Oof that was rough.” Reframe your thinking to, “I tried my best and I’ll continue to get better.” Pressure can make you better but it can also collapse your progress. Try to balance your drive to grow with your ability to enjoy time with your horse. After all riding is supposed to be FUN! by @corey__stein

Could not be more proud of Dexter and Erin for having an amazing show season. 4 shows, pretty ribbons, a lot of growth, and tons of fun. Dexter is such a special horse and I’m so grateful to him that he always takes care of our students. It’s extra special that he loves his job. My heart is full of pride at how much Erin has improved since her first ride with McKenzie and I 3 years ago. And how much my horse had improved since I bought him 10 years ago. I LOVE what I do and seeing progress makes me grin from ear to ear and my heart sing. So so so grateful for Dexter and beyond lucky to have clients like Erin and her family. A special thank you to McKenzie for being the best co-trainer I could ask for. Couldn’t do all this amazing stuff without you. Another thank you to Victoria for your everlasting support. My heart is full is an understatement ♥️🐴 by @corey__stein
