🐦‍⬛ Happy to share photograph’s of my recent remote performance ‘The Severed Wing' @the_lowry

My performance was live streamed from bed & I'm thankful to be the first artist to perform virtually at The Lowry.

Although most performance artists perform physically at venues, my health means I spend lots of time in bed.

Thank you so much to The Lowry for removing my barriers and for your kindness and support.

Very happy I’ve been awarded Arts Council Project Grant @aceagrams to support my first solo exhibition ‘Daisyland’ April 2027 commissioned by lovely @levelcentre

🌼 Daisyland – A magical world myself & my only childhood & imaginary friend Daisy created to escape a childhood largely defined by illness.

Both huge inspirations to me.

Daisyland was the 1st place my disabilities were embraced rather than discriminated against I wish everywhere was like Daisyland.

Instax Self-portraits 📷🎞

I’m so thankful to be one of three Disabled artists selected for @wilshermills MBE's
Micro Commission's with @ncmme_

These self-portraits with Coal Dust, Nan’s Fingerprint in a Locket, Vintage Pinned Butterfly & Davy Lamp form part of my research.

I grew up with stories of Grandad’s life underground, which for him was very scary. He believed in Coblynau – Welsh Mine Spirits which kept him safe 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

(I'm not strong enough to hold the Davy Lamp. It's very heavy, so my partner kindly held it up just out of shot)

As this chapter of The Severed Wing draws to a close I wanted to thank everyone who helped me ‘fly’

I worked with a beautiful team who supported my belief that my bed confinement shouldn’t be a barrier to working as a performance artist.

Together we transformed my vision of performing from bed & connecting with live audiences into a reality.

Nan gifted me a locket with her fingerprint inside. I speak with Nan daily but don’t see her in person much. So this locket (a family heirloom) is a beautiful way of keeping Nan close.

I love making photographic self -portraits. I love telling stories with them but I wish they could move and that’s what led me to performance art.

More specifically The Severed Wing A new live art performance exploring my limited mobility and lived experience as a disabled, artist whose health confines me to bed.

Tonight I’m performing via live stream at @attenboroughac as part of 'Attenborough Lates' on what would have been Grandad’s 88th Birthday.

Grandad was a Welsh coal miner, so I’ve added this self-portrait to my performance. The tears are made from a piece of coal that belonged to Grandad.

Happy heavenly Birthday Grandad, me and Nan miss you every day 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿
