Who gets to decide what young people learn about technology?

It was standing room only last night at Cornell Tech for a conversation between New York Times journalist Natasha Singer and Greg Morrisett, Jack and Rilla Neafsey Dean and Vice Provost of Cornell Tech, about Singer’s new book, Coding Kids: Big Tech's Battle to Remake Public Schools, and the rapidly evolving role of technology companies in computer science and AI education.

Singer and Morrisett explored how computer science became a major part of the K–12 curriculum, why technology companies have invested so heavily in education, and the complex relationship between expanding access to technology education and protecting the independence of schools.

They also discussed what it means to prepare young people not just to use technology, but to understand it, question it, and think critically about AI’s impact on society— and what educators and policymakers can learn from the evolution of computer science education as AI transforms the classroom. It’s a subject important to leadership at Cornell Tech and one that informs the K-12 Initiative's work with educators to advance thoughtful, critical, and creative approaches to computing and AI education.

Thank you to Cornell alumna Alexandra Stanton for kicking off the evening by welcoming the crowd! And to The Astoria Bookshop for being our bookseller on site.

Coding Kids is available for purchase at the link in our bio!

As AI and emerging technologies accelerate the pace of change, do universities still have the long view?

Cornell Tech Dean and Vice Provost Greg Morrisett joined a timely discussion today at the QS Back to School Summit on "The Long View vs the Innovation Cycle," moderated by Nell Gluckman of The Chronicle of Higher Education.

The conversation covered how Cornell Tech prepares students for a rapidly changing tech industry, the university's engagement in New York City, and the broader question of higher education's role in an AI-driven future.

Thank you to all who attended! 👏 by @cornell_tech

Congratulations to Thijs Roumen and Kate Nicholson on being named 2026–27 fellows with the Einhorn Center for Community Engagement.

Thijs Roumen, an assistant professor of information science at Cornell Tech and @Cornell.Bowers, joins the Faculty Fellows in Engaged Scholarship, while Kate Nicholson, director of programs and partnerships for Cornell Tech’s Public Interest Technology Initiative, joins the inaugural Fellowship for Community-Engaged Professionals.

The fellowships bring together faculty and staff from across Cornell to develop community-engaged scholarship, courses, and co-curricular programs while sharing ideas and best practices through a yearlong community of practice.

We look forward to seeing how Thijs and Kate bring their expertise and commitment to public engagement to their work throughout the fellowship year.

AI/NYC: Emergency Room Robots 🚑

When every second counts, finding the right medical supply shouldn't slow a care team down.

In this episode of AI/NYC, Cornell Tech professor Angelique Taylor shares how her research team is reimagining the traditional medical crash cart as a robotic assistant designed to improve communication and teamwork during emergency care.

By combining robotics, AI, and human-centered design, the team is exploring new ways to help healthcare providers coordinate more effectively in high-pressure situations — where every second matters.

AI/NYC reels feature Cornell Tech researchers shaping the future of AI on our campus in NYC.

When a user discovers @TikTok through an ad, a friend’s recommendation, or a chance scroll through the app store, it might feel like a simple moment.

For Cornell Tech alumna Donghui Li though, it’s a complex data problem hiding in plain sight — and solving it at global scale is what drives her.

It was a privilege for Cornell Tech to welcome distinguished members of Thailand’s legal community for a visit centered on remembering Her Royal Highness Princess Bajrakitiyabha, LL.M. ’02, J.S.D. ’05.

We were honored to be joined by The Honorable Chief Justice Adisak Tantiwong of the Thai Bar and Professor Dr. Kittipong Kittayarak, LL.M. ’83 of the Thailand Institute of Justice, as we reflected on Her Royal Highness’s profound connection to Cornell and her lifelong dedication to the law and to serving others.

Her years at Cornell were part of a remarkable journey devoted to advancing justice and public service. As members of the Cornell community, we are grateful for the opportunity to welcome our friends and colleagues from Thailand to Cornell Tech and to remember a fellow Cornellian whose work continues to hold deep significance.

Huge thanks to @Forbes and reporter Neha Mehra for featuring Cornell Tech’s 2026 Startup Award winners (shown here) in a new feature exploring how student founders are turning ideas into startups!

The article begins… ”Four student teams walked away from Cornell Tech's May 2026 Startup Awards with $100,000 checks each, pitching tools that block AI exam fraud, secure financial transactions, and organize medical device compliance data in front of nearly 600 people on the Roosevelt Island campus…That's not a hypothetical pitch deck. That's real capital going into real student-run companies this year.”

“The pattern across recent cohorts, from Cornell Tech to MIT Sloan to Babson, points to three winning shapes: AI-powered tools that automate one annoying task for a specific industry, physical products sold first to fellow students, and service businesses that piggyback on university infrastructure.”

Through Cornell Tech’s signature Studio Program in the Jacobs Technion-Cornell Institute, we support founders as they take their ideas from the classroom onto the stage and then into our Runway program, which has helped to launch nearly 140 companies collectively valued at over $1.3 billion!

We’re grateful to Forbes for highlighting the growing momentum around student entrepreneurship, and we’ll be cheering on all of our founders as they continue to build! 🚀

We were excited to see today's headline that New York is now North America’s #1 market for tech talent—with AI helping power the surge. For the first time in CBRE’s 13-year ranking, New York has overtaken the Bay Area, with nearly 400,000 tech workers and more than 20,000 AI-specific jobs added in the past year. Cornell Tech is proud of its students, faculty, alumni, and startup founders who have contributed to this growth in NYC's tech talent!

Orientation is underway at Cornell Tech!

New students are settling into their home base in the heart of New York City, surrounded by innovation in AI, health, urban systems, media and democracy, and public interest tech. A group of people is outdoors, standing near a modern building with glass and metal architecture. One person is holding up a phone, appearing to take a group selfie. Trees and greenery are visible in the background, and the weather looks sunny. taken in Cornell Tech by @cornell_tech
