Happy Saturday! It's Market Day so come on down to the 2105 W. Market St, in the parking lot of St. Andrew's. A friendly reminder that parking is prohibited on any part of West Market Street including the medians and sidewalks; we have bountiful parking in our lot, on the surrounding streets and in the parking lot of the Christian Science Church around the corner on Arden Place as well. Rain or shine, we're here from 8am-12pm every Saturday! by @cornermarketgso

As always, we are open tomorrow from 8am-noon!

There's parking all around the market, including at First Christian across Market Street or around the corner in the lot at the Christian Science Church on Arden. Street parking is plentiful, just be respectful of blocking driveways and follow posted parking signs. We also have 35 spots in our market lot, including 3 handicapped spaces for easy access. Spots in the lot are always turning over, so it's definitely worth giving it a shot. 😉

NEVER park on sidewalks or on Market Street for safety reasons! by @cornermarketgso

Our SNAP matching program is a point of pride for our market. We do not receive any government funding--all our funds come from local grants and people like you. Together we have built the largest program statewide!

The Green for Greens fund matches up to $50 weekly of our customers SNAP budget. The average customer using SNAP comes to us with a budget of just $36 to feed their family for the week. We get to double that and make their dollars go further.

Together we are a community that cares. We have each other's backs. But the Green for Greens fund isn't simply a charity program. We aren't asking our farmers to give away food. The program pays them full price for everything they sell. At the end of the day we write checks to our vendors to reimburse their SNAP tokens. Last year those vendor payouts totalled more than $120,000.

Feeding people is what we do. The more our farmers sell, the more they grow. The extra income from the Green for Greens program works out to be around 10% of our farmer's income. That 10% can be the difference between a farm making it or not. We have 11 farms on our roster that have been farming less than 10 years and are self-supporting with the money they make at the market as their primary income. The Green for Greens program is a way to have their back too. Strong local food systems are a critical piece of our community's future.

Green for Greens makes all of that happen. Please chip in if you can: https://givebutter.com/C6EiCj by @cornermarketgso

Market day is almost here! Aamal and Vincent just got back from the orchards at Brushy Mountain where the fall leaves are beginning to turn. It's apple season and they'll have Ambrosia, Blondees, Braeburn, Granny Smith, Jonagold and Magna Bonum apples on Saturday.

It's also fun to see the fresh flowers as we transition into fall. We love these deep burgundy accents Deep River Flower Farm is pulling in. They also are pulling fresh ginger. Nicole describes fresh ginger as sweeter and milder than cured and has a fresh grassy flavor. As if that flavor profile isn't enough to convince you, it also does not have to be peeled! Any that you don't use straightaway can be grated and stored in the freezer. You can learn a lot talking to our farmers! See you tomorrow!! by @cornermarketgso

The air is getting crisper, the sweaters are coming out, and the veggies are BEAUTIFUL!

We are seeing more greens and roots on the farm tables. Bok Choi, radish, collards chard and gorgeous lettuces are muscling out tomatoes and peppers, so for this little window of time you can have both! All of our farms grow year round and the Tetris of crop rotation and seasonal planning is quite impressive.

Look at that festive harvest table at the Sun and Soil stand. Welcome October! 🍂 by @cornermarketgso

Happy Monday Market Friends!

Who's got the best butt? The world may never know. (Read on for the surprising results of our pork butt fundraising competition on Sept 26th!)

Sandy Shelton and Jim Dodson both purchased a pork butt roast from market vendors B&E Farm. They each worked their own special rituals to prepare the meat: marinading, rubbing and cooking the meat. Both offered up their butts for judgement. Throughout the day, generous tasters cast their votes with dollars to help tip the scale toward one of the chefs.

We've been told that Sandy and Jim tend to have a tie score when they play golf. And they tied at the market as well. Each raised exactly $143 in voter dollars.

So who won? We did. All of us. The $286 will go into the market's Green for Greens fund where it will be matched with our customer's SNAP dollars, stretching their food budget to put twice as much food on their family's table. And the $286, matched with $286 in USDA SNAP funds, will all be spent with our farmers and local food businesses. When more of our neighbors are fed and we are helping our farms make ends meet, we sleep better at night. Don't you?

Thank you to both of our chefs and to all of you who voted! by @cornermarketgso

It’s market day! We’re here until noon at West Market St and Kensington.

This week you'll notice a little shift in our layout. Instead of having a separate kids craft space and music space we will combine both into what we envision as a community space. The space will feature cafe tables, chairs and stools that can accommodate kids activities, music, non-profit groups, etc. We are experimenting with what the community wants, and what we've heard loud and clear is that you want space to sit with a friend for coffee. To let the kids eat their muffin and listen to music. A place where the family can connect with others in the community. We have some exciting plans coming up, and yes, we will still have the annual pumpkin painting on October 31!

Let us know your thoughts on what you'd like to see in the space! by @cornermarketgso

Pickin' and Grinnin', and Turkey Time!! See you tomorrow morning at The Corner!

Aamal and Vincent picked grapes with a crew of volunteers out at the Guilford County Farm this week. On Saturday the literal fruits of their labors will be on sale with profits going to the Green for Greens SNAP matching fund.

If you missed the pick, it's not too late to support the effort! Be sure to come early on Saturday and load up on fresh picked muscadines! As of this writing, 20 lbs have been picked and will be on the Fruittickler table (but I bet not for long!)

Also, B&E Farm has pasture raised turkeys fed on non-GMO feed available for Thanksgiving. They have raised 26 for this year and they are going fast! With only about 17 remaining, you want to go ahead and place your order.

A $20 deposit is required to reserve a turkey (this is applied to the final cost). Weights range between 10-20 lbs. and cost 8.25/lb. They will be frozen and available for pick up two weeks before Thanksgiving.

To reserve your bird, contact Ben (970) 370.9246 or Elissa (970) 370.9450. by @cornermarketgso
