This project began with a dream — to work in residency at Tian Taru, in search of a deeper understanding of indigo blue and the profound relationship between natural pigments, painting, and the process of dyeing.

Along the way, I connected with the studio of Pagi Mothley, where this initial exploration expanded into a broader artistic research—one rooted in the land and in the materials it offers.

The bark becomes my canvas.
Sapan wood, katapang, coconut and leaves become sources of colour.

I came to Indonesia to paint the landscape.
But slowly, the landscape itself begins to change the way I paint.
It is no longer simply what I observe.
It becomes my material.

I feel grateful for this beautiful collaborations and the inspiring connections during this journey in Bali.

Something very special is taking shape…

Isabelle and I had the chance to get a first look at the incredible new works by Inge Cornil.

She is currently developing a completely new series, working with natural materials, pigments, indigo and beautifully tactile, organic processes. The textures, colours, scale and sheer physical presence of these pieces are difficult to capture in a photograph.

These works seriously blow your mind raw, sophisticated, unexpected and absolutely beautiful.

We can’t share too much just yet… but soon, much more. 👀

BARK WORKS — a new series
The newest BARK WORKS series is created to the rhythm of Balinese nature.
I came to Indonesia to paint the landscape.
And ended up discovering that the landscape could become the paint, the canvas, and part of the painting itself.
Here, the tropical light becomes the director of the artistic process.
Bark becomes my canvas. Sapan wood, katapan, coconut, mango and indigo leaves become colour.
The works emerge through a dialogue between material, light, place and time — allowing the landscape to leave its physical trace within the work.
BARK WORKS is an evolving exploration of nature not as a subject to represent, but as an active collaborator in the making of the artwork.
This project is developing through a beautiful and inspiring collaboration with @pagimothley, @andikapagipothley, @tiantaru and @themaunavilla.

Today, we celebrated the 7th anniversary of @pagimotley 💛
I feel grateful to collaborate with this beautiful dyeing studio and to experience their deep love for pure, natural pigments—handmade from coconut, Sapan wood, Katapan, and Indigo leaves.

My working process & newest series of artworks on bark cloth were admired by some Japanese designers.
