Celebrated my birthday with family a day early since we won't all be together tomorrow. Wonderful dinner at Suraya—wow! Birthday affirmations (family tradition) and sweet cards from River and Nova along with a puzzle and craft project for us to do together in Long Lake.

Feeling loved. ❤️ by @corsesj

Happy Father’s Day to the father of our children, who has loved, supported, guided, and delighted in them through every stage of life.

Remembering my own dad, lost far too young, and grateful for the ways his love shaped me and lives on in the grandchildren and great-grandchildren he never met.

Delighted by Justin’s dedication and creativity as a father to his two daughters, and by the future father in Phil, whose depth and heart will serve him well whenever his time comes.

Today I'm grateful for the fathers who shaped us, the fathers who walk beside us, and the fathers who are still becoming. ❤️ by @corsesj

Change after loss doesn’t follow a clear path.
It unfolds in its own time—and often asks more of us than we expect.

Next month, I’ll be offering a workshop to explore this together.
A space for reflection, meaning-making, and reconnecting with what matters.

You’re welcome to join 🤍#griefandgrowth #lifechanges #healingjourney #mentalhealthsupport

It’s been 49 years since my dad passed away at the age of 47. It was during the blizzard of 1977 and we lived in the snow belt. I only recently learned that the snow belt is a mere 50 mi.² area off the tip of Lake Ontario in northern New York-so we were used to snow. In a way I’m grateful that so many friends of our family were snowed in at the farm for the next week because they held us lovingly through the chaos and the tears. My dad was a mensch. by @corsesj

Halloween in Powelton Village. One of the aunties shepherding her nephew and niece said “I always loved trick-or-treating in this neighborhood when I was a kid.” Generations… by @corsesj

Norway Adventure 9/5/25 Part 2: After a guided tour of Alesund center and lunch, I took off on my own to explore the neighborhood near our hotel Brosundet in light rain. I was about to pack it in and rest until dinner when I bumped into our tour coordinator, Mandy, who casually asked if I’d climbed the 412 steps to the Aksla Viewpoint. Not wanting to miss out on anything on the last day of the tour, I decided I had just enough time to take the trek before dinner. I launched off in search of an entrance to the hiking paths and stone steps (without benefit of GPS). It felt steep and daunting at first but I fell into a rhythm of step-climbing, pausing along the way to capture the amazing views. A further woodsy path along the ridge gave me many more vistas and perspectives. And the feel, foliage and fungi along the way felt like walking on an Adirondack trail. taken in Aksla Viewpoint by @corsesj

Norway Adventure 9/5/25-Part 1. Our day began with a rainbow over Oye as we said goodbye to the hotel goats and the robot lawnmower who faithfully keeps the grounds tidy. @Gondwana_Ecotours arranged for a handsome and knowledgeable ship captain to ferry us through the fjords to Alesund for the last full day of our tour. And what a day it was! Alesund was completely destroyed by fire in 1904 and intentionally rebuilt over the next 2-3 years in Art Nouveau style. We learned a lot during our tour of the city and drank in the beauty. taken in Geiranger Fjord, Norway by @corsesj

Norway Adventure 9/4/25
What a day — full of adventure and an unscheduled royal surprise!

We started with a morning hike in Øye, then kayaked the fjord toward the village of Urke. The plan was a round trip with a picnic in Urke, but fierce, erratic winds had other ideas. Kenwyn and I rocked the double kayak, battling our way to the dock, relieved not to face the return.

As we approached, our guide pointed to a royal vessel heading for Øye. The flags revealed Queen Sonja, 88, was on board!

After a rain-showered picnic, we explored Urke before driving back to Hotel Union, where the royal boat was now docked. Later, I slipped into the library to relax — only to hear a soaring soprano voice from Les Mis drifting through the hall. Curious, I followed the sound, but staff gently told me it was a private concert for a “special guest.” My tour-mate Vicki tried too, with the same result. I whispered to her: “It’s the Queen!”

We giggled our way back to the library… and suddenly, in walked Queen Sonja herself, with her entourage and Marianne, Hotel Union’s general manager, carrying her baby daughter. They greeted us briefly while Marianne showed off the library’s painted ceiling (in Norwegian). Vicki and I sat frozen, quiet as mice — I pretended to read a book!

Later we learned the backstory: as a child, Marianne once sang for the Queen in Øye. They stayed in touch, and now, as hotel manager, she invited the Queen back to see the renovations, hear her sing again, and meet her daughter — named Sonja after the Queen.

We couldn’t have planned this day if we tried! by @corsesj

Norway adventure 9/3/25. Left Hotel Alexandra after a yummy breakfast from the buffet where we also packed a lunch for the van trip through twisty mountain roads to the Geiranger fjord. Visited the Fjordsenter museum, walked down along the waterfalls and took a ferrycruise through Geirangerfjord. Arrived at Hotel Union in Oye with enough time to explore this historic hotel and walk through the little town prior to dinner and our first sleep in the Edvard Grieg room. taken in Geiranger Fjord, Norway by @corsesj

Norway adventure 9/2/25 Part 3. After our big hike up Mt Hoven, boat ride on the glacial lake, lunch at the remote restaurant and hike to view the glaciers, we hopped in our van and returned to the Hotel Alexandra for a quick swim in their massive complex of pools and hot-tubs and waterslides. Dinner included venison stew with lingonberries and celebrating the birthday of one of our tour-mates. by @corsesj
