POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
@unboundgravel 2024 is in the books. Summing up this experience in a simple post is quite a task. From the build-up, training, planning, and travel to the atmosphere and the race itself, it’s truly more than just some weekend in June.

As someone who has never done this race before, you hear stories and ask loads of questions about preparation, tires, nutrition, and all the above. But it takes actually doing it to really understand and get a sense of what you have just completed. Having said that, I loved it. It’s a bit bittersweet, as I made the front group and got through the early chaos to be amongst the best, but unfortunately, around mile 65, I sliced my sidewall and subsequently lost 9 minutes to the front group after I was able to repair it and get rolling again.

From that point, it was head down to aid one, where my amazing support crew from @champsys was waiting to give me a new rear wheel and get me back on the chase. Once back out there, I linked up with @alex_howes and two riders from @teambahrainvictorious, or as I coined it, ā€žThe Bahrain Express Train,ā€œ as we were cooking but unable to close down the gap to the front. After those two riders stopped to help @matmohoric, I was back with two others into the second feed, where I exited with one rider, and we rode together for the next two hours, clipping off a solid tempo until we linked up with @nathanpeterhaas and a few others. From there, it was rolling turns to the finish to get the day done.

It’s tough to say what could have been had I not lost those minutes fixing the tire early on. I’m leaving here wondering what I could have truly done, but I’m still happy with how this experience turned out. From a physical performance side, I am beyond happy, as my nutrition strategy (more on that later) with @maurten_official worked perfectly, and my energy from start to finish was steady. All in all, I loved this week and can’t wait for next year. It means so much to be able to challenge #ibd and show that @ride4ibd can help inspire others with this condition through events like this. Thank you to all the sponsors and supporters who make this possible. #unbound #gravel #ride4ibd #gravelbike by @corymike23

This Crohn’s and Colitis Week, we are beyond excited to launch Project Visible by Ride4IBD.

Project Visible by Ride4IBD aim’s to bring a fresh, innovative approach to meld awareness with positivity, sports, and showcasing the possibilities of living with IBD and gut-related issues in our communities. Our mission is to help others challenge the narrative of what is seen as possible while dealing with IBD and foster the next generation of autoimmune athletes.

With the launch of this project, we will expand our presence in communities by offering opportunities to support athletes competing at various sports levels. We will also make our kits available for others to create awareness opportunities as they #ride4ibd and build our ambitions of Team Ride4IBD - Empowering Gut Health.

Over the coming months, we will grow our calendar of events, races, and collaborations to bring more awareness into our communities and support organizations shaping the future of IBD.

We are excited to elevate our next chapter and invite you to share this video, helping to show that we can break down social stigmas and reshape IBD positively.
Ride. Inspire. Challenge.

Hey everyone—
It’s been a whirlwind of a year, and without a doubt the hardest time of my life, recovering from a severe brain injury. Getting run over by a car and living through the aftermath has tested me in every possible way. But even with all the pain and challenges that come with a TBI, there’s been a lot of good too.

Last month I graduated from Centre for Neuro Skills, a full-time brain recovery center here in LA—an inpatient program 5 days a week, 9 to 5. It was intense: cognitive therapy, psych work, physical rehab, and everything in between. When I started in January, I could barely speak, couldn’t swallow properly, and had zero short-term memory. I’m still working on a lot, and will be for a while, but I’ve officially graduated from the acute phase and stepped into long-term recovery.

Huge thanks to the amazing team at the Centre for Neuro Skills—and to my wife Jenny, my family, and close friends. Their love and support kept me going when I couldn’t see a way forward.

This whole thing has been a roller coaster. I went from training and racing full-time, to relearning how to read, do simple math, and remember 3 numbers at a time. What was supposed to take 2–3 years at CNS to complete, I finished in just 4 months - so I guess that counts as a podium finish šŸ˜….

It’s still tough watching from the sidelines though, not being out racing with the crew—but one big win: I’ve been prescribed to ride again. Getting back on the bike has been a massive mental boost. And… I’ve somehow picked up golf šŸ˜‚ - which I’ve obsessed over and has become kind of therapeutic.

The mental side of this injury is a battle too. Anxiety, depression, not being able to do basic tasks or get through a full workday—it’s all real and something you never thought a simple day out on the bike would amount to. Yet I’m still here, still pushing, and more motivated than ever to heal—and help others doing the same.

Thank you for all the love and support!

šŸš“ā€ā™‚ļø Road to Recovery: 7 Weeks Post-Accident šŸš“ā€ā™‚ļø

Seven weeks ago, my world changed when I was hit by a car while riding. It’s been one of the toughest challenges I’ve ever faced, but through it all, the outpouring of love, support, and encouragement—from close friends to complete strangers—has made every step forward a little bit easier.

Recovering from multiple injuries is never easy, but nothing compares to the challenge of healing a brain injury. Unlike a broken bone, you can’t see the healing process—you only feel it in your thinking, emotions, vision, balance, and overall function. It’s frustrating at times, but I’m fully committed to the work it takes to come back stronger.

Over the past weeks, I’ve been fortunate to be accepted into one of the world’s leading neurorehabilitation programs, The Centre for Neuro Skills. Five days a week, I’m in an intensive, all-day program focused on physical therapy, occupational therapy, cognitive rehabilitation, and more—all designed to help rebuild neurological pathways and restore both my body and mind.

This journey is not just about recovery—it’s about learning, adapting, and pushing forward. Much like my experience with IBD, I want to share the reality of overcoming a traumatic brain injury (TBI)—the challenges, progress, and milestones along the way. It’s a process that takes patience and persistence, but with the right support, anything is possible.

Here are a few moments from the past couple of weeks—balance drills, PT sessions, and cognitive exercises—all showing just how much progress has already been made. Some areas are improving quickly, while others will take more time, but I’m committed to the work ahead.

Thank you all for your continued support and encouragement—it means the world. I’ll keep pushing so I can get back to doing what I love most: riding, racing, and being part of this incredible cycling community.

On December 20th, while out riding, I was struck from behind by a car. The impact was severe, and I was rushed to the hospital, where I spent four days surrounded by family with amazing care and support.

I’m incredibly thankful to @abus_cycling —my helmet saved my life. It’s hard to put into words how much gratitude I feel for the first responders, the strangers who stopped to help, and my loved ones who have been by my side every step of the way.

Now home, I’m focusing on healing and taking each day as it comes. This holiday season has been anything but easy, yet it’s shown me the power of resilience and the importance of the incredible people in my life.

Thank you for your support—it means the world as I navigate this road to recovery. by @corymike23

What a rush these last two months have been! I’ve had a blast experiencing new challenges and races that have been on my bucket list for quite some time.

It’s been an honor to represent @ride4ibd across the U.S. and in new places, meeting new people and playing a small part in changing how the world sees #IBD.

I hope that taking on events like @ltraceseries shows that we can thrive, challenge the narrative of living with an autoimmune condition, and lead a lifestyle that puts holistic health and wellness into practice—finding balance beyond a diagnosis.
