POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

it’s been 5 years — but hi, i’m back 📚
I finished Giovanni’s Room by the goated author James Baldwin recently and safe to say, my taste in books have shifted from Fantasy/YA to more towards Asian Lit and the classics over the last 5 years. I suppose it goes hand-in-hand with the experiences and personaly growth that’s led me to where I am today (still LOOOVE fantasy, though).

Anyway, if you’re seeing this, that means you’re still following my bookstagram, and I’m so grateful I’m not alone and I get to enjoy books with you. 🫶🏻

Can’t believe it took 2 months to open @owlcrate’s Haunted Hearts box… it just sat at one corner of my room gathering dust while I struggled to pull through this semester… but better late than never!

The highlight for this box was definitely the calligraphy kit, I genuinely gasped when I opened it. So gorgeous. 🕯 by @cosmicbookmark

My semester has finally ended, which gives me some more time to read 🥸🙈 what’s on everyone’s TBR this season? Mine is this dark academia title from @owlcrate’s September box!

Also shoutout to @novellyyours for this amazing coffee scented soy wax candle, the earthy blend of vanilla musk, mahogany, espresso and newspaper keeps my room smelling like a corner café indeed ☕️ by @cosmicbookmark

It’s been a while! ✋🏻 Currently swamped with uni stuff and haven’t been reading as much as I wish to, but here’s a little glance at what’s on my TBR! Heard so many good things about this author’s works so I went ahead and copped both Sorcery of Thorns and An Enchantment of Ravens! 😳 I don’t often see a lot of standalone YA fantasy stories these days so I’m curious to dive into these :D by @cosmicbookmark

It’s been a while! 🤍 What book are you reading these days? For me it’s People We Meet On Vacation by @emilyhenrywrites and it’s just the lovely, slow burn friends to lovers I needed to get out of my reading slump 😌🤸🏻‍♀️ by @cosmicbookmark

Recently got this adorable and quirky novel about a struggling bookshop and the little tabby cat who gets taken in by its owner and, eventually, helps the shop get back on its feet by connecting with its different customers 🥺💕📖

Japanese literature can be so eclectic and charming. Do you have any favorite authors or titles? by @cosmicbookmark

Fantasy has and always will be my comfort genre — nothing like escaping the mundane reality and jumping into another world full of the unknown 🤍

Gods of Jade & Shadow is a blend of Mexican mythology and historical fiction set in the 1920s Jazz Age, and reading this has been an absolute delight since it’s my first exposure to such lore!

There Will Come A Darkness features a multiethnic ensemble cast of 5 characters with different sexualities thrown together in a mission that can save the world. As someone who ADORED Six of Crows, the premise of this book was right up my alley! If you’re like me and adore a roller coaster romp, I have no doubts you’d enjoy this, too. by @cosmicbookmark

Do you have a pre-reading routine?
For me, I can’t curl up with a book without having a drink and a favorite candle by my side. 💕 This one’s the Splendor of Caraval by @novellyyours and I’m really loving its sugary apple scent so far! by @cosmicbookmark

💕 Sometimes you come across very special books that could have only been written by people with very specific experiences. Winter In Sokcho — a debut novel by a French-Korean author — is one of them. This is such an exquisite, pleasant read. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ by @cosmicbookmark

“After you died I could not hold a funeral,
and so my life became a funeral.”

‘Human Acts’ by Han Kang is such an important read about the 1980s Gwangju Massacre in South Korea. A time of political unrest and struggle for justice against an oppressive and corrupt government, we follow the lives of the brave college students who changed the future of the contemporary South Korea we know and love.

This story may be fictional, but the events that it takes place in felt so real it almost read like a memoir. It gets brutal. It gets angsty. Most of all, it makes the reader empathize by immersing you into the grim days of the ‘80s. So good. Must read. #bookstagram #nowreading #bookish #bookshelf #koreanliterature #asianliterature by @cosmicbookmark

Korean Literature! ✨TGIF everyone :) here I am, back at it again with my love for East Asian stories. These 4 are some of my absolute fav picks this year!

Major rec would be ‘If I Had Your Face’ by Frances Cha. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ here’s the blurb:

“Plunge us into the mesmerizing world of contemporary Seoul - a place where extreme plastic surgery is as routine as getting a haircut, where women compete for spots in secret 'room salons' to entertain wealthy businessmen after hours, where K-Pop stars are the object of all-consuming obsession, and ruthless social hierarchies dictate your every move.

Navigating this hyper-competitive city are four young women balancing on the razor-edge of survival: Kyuri, an exquisitely beautiful woman whose hard-won status at an exclusive 'room salon' is threatened by an impulsive mistake with a client; her flatmate Miho, an orphan who wins a scholarship to a prestigious art school in New York, where her life becomes tragically enmeshed with the super-wealthy offspring of the Korean elite; Wonna, their neighbour, pregnant with a child that she and her husband have no idea how they will afford to raise in a fiercely competitive economy; and Ara, a hair stylist living down the hall, whose infatuation with a fresh-faced K-Pop star drives her to violent extremes.” 📚

💕 I really enjoyed how this book explores the troubles and triumphs of Korean womanhood—a totally engrossing read worth your time! Highlights some prevalent issues that should be heard. I’m glad I picked this up.

Have you read any books by Asian authors lately? by @cosmicbookmark
