Filmmaker Ina Sotirova is heading into the inaugural Caribbean Film Awards with five nominations across two Jamaican projects.

Her short film Stinky Mango earned nominations including Best Short Film and Best Actor for Sheldon Shepherd, while Sisters and the Storm is nominated for Best Documentary. Ina herself is also nominated for Best Emerging Filmmaker.

She joined Sunrise to talk about grief, masculinity, emotional expression and the Mango Magic Movement, which uses storytelling to challenge taboos around men and boys expressing emotion.

The awards take place October 10 in Wilmington, Delaware.

Thank you to the Caribbean Film Awards Jury for this incredible honour, and thank you to everyone who has been part of this journey. Special thanks to our amazing cast, crew, partners, and supporters, without whom this would not have been possible.

ODOS GLOBAL ROLL CALL 🌍 : MOVERS & SHAKERS

This week, we spotlight five ODOS trailblazers, creative builders whose work is doing more than earning credits. They are opening lanes, moving culture, and expanding what Caribbean talent can look like in the global marketplace.

Tolga Akcayli is building in one of the most exciting spaces in modern storytelling: IP via Jamaica no Ja Maika. Through Jamaican Anime, his manga/comic and screen work point to a future where Caribbean stories can live across film, animation, publishing, merchandise, gaming, and fandom culture.

Rome continues to prove that Caribbean entertainment belongs on major platforms. With Carnival Catwalk reaching Peacock, he has helped push Carnival, fashion, music, culture, and television into a wider international conversation — turning local energy into an exportable format.

Ina Sotirova is carrying Jamaica-centred storytelling with spirit, craft, and global recognition. Her work (Stinky Mango) continues to earn awards and selections, reminding us that Caribbean film can be intimate, magical, political, emotional, and commercially expandable all at once.

Danny J Weekes represents the visual discipline behind great storytelling. As a director, cinematographer, and editor with film and television credits across IMDb-listed projects, he is part of the production engine helping Caribbean-connected stories meet international screen standards.

Mark Walton brings the strategy that creative communities need to scale. Through his media leadership, teaching, distribution insight, and Caribbean-facing work at Cannes (Pavilion Afronova), he is helping connect our stories to markets, buyers, institutions, and global industry rooms.

These are not just creatives. They are building lanes.

Film. Television. Anime. Carnival. Distribution. Strategy. Storytelling. Market access.

This is the work ODOS exists to celebrate. The people who help move Caribbean creativity from talent to infrastructure, from island to industry, from community to world stage.

5 Faces. 1 Global Creative Network.
